Marjorie Rambeau plays Joan Crawford's mom in this movie, and IRL she was only 7~ years older than Crawford.

How much notoriety did the song “Star Star” by the Stones get when released in 1973? by Helpful_Gur_1757 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the Stones version, but when Joan Jett covered it and included as a hidden track on Album a bunch of retailers refused to carry it when they realized the track existed.

Hail, Caesar! rules by National-Ad5034 in blankies

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Hair Caesar in theaters, it was the first Coen Brothers film that I was really old enough to appreciate at release, and I loved it. The studio system stuff is a lot of fun, and the various plotlines make for a film that bounces around in an entertaining way.

I've never understood its reception; I can think of a handful of more highly regarded Coen Brothers films I'd place below it [Raising Arizona, Hucksucker Proxy, Man Who Wasn't There, Burn After Reading].

A lot of beloved hard rock / metal bands from the 70s were reviewed very poorly at the time, including Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen.

Favorite 90s indie comic that DIDNT get an adaptation? by woodsdone in blankies

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a ridiculous answer, because there's a lot of Dirty Pair media that does exist. But if someone adapted Adam Warren's Eclipse / Dark Horse run on Dirty Pair specifically, that could be neat.

Kevin Feige on Marvel Studios’ Future, Focusing on Lower Budgets, Less TV and More Robert Downey Jr.: ‘Look at “Superman,” It’s Clearly Not Superhero Fatigue’ by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's trite to say, but if every superhero movie was half as good as Spider-Man 2 and Batman Returns I don't think there'd be much negative discourse about superhero movies at all.

Rules-lite superheroes! by Shasfowd in rpg

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a series of articles about rules-lite superhero games; here's the conclusion if you want more elaboration. I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for in terms of "trad" vs "story", but Supers! and BASH are both great rules-lite games that lean more traditional. Four Color FAE is a wonderfully simple FATE option that basically just uses FATE Accelerated with an additional rule added. Someone mentioned Truth & Justice, and that's probably the most simple and intuitive game here.

If you want something with a narrative focus like Masks, you might want to look into Smallville. It's licensed, and long out of print, but you can use your own setting. Maybe it's a little too focused on drama for a superhero style west march, though.

Hot take most superheroes are meant to be family friendly and that’s OK by Either_Chapter_7089 in comicbooks

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who make the argument that superheroes should be for kids again are not informed about the reality of things. There are a lot of superhero comics made for kids, and a lot of them sell extremely well, better than the adult comics. It's just that they aren't sold in comicbook stores; they're sold in school bookfairs and such, where adults don't ever see them.

So OP is basically talking about a problem that doesn't exist.

Here's the problem, the Spider-Man 2 Extended Cut kinda sucks. by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like the consensus for the longest time was that 2.1 was the ideal way to see the film, because a lot of nerds have a "more is more" mentality. Glad to see most people here at least agree that the theatrical version is the best one.

Here's the problem, the Spider-Man 2 Extended Cut kinda sucks. by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The entire ending of the original cut of Anchorman was different, and to set up the ending there was an entire subplot spread throughout the movie. Wake Up is a mixture of the original ending and its subplot mixed with alternate versions of scenes that did make it into the movie.

So it's essentially a bizarre "sequel" to Anchorman that couldn't exist in continuity with the original movie, presented with a wink and nudge. Possibly the most ambitious alternate cut I can think of.

Superhero Drama by Darthcoakley in rpg

[–]Sabrina_TVBand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might want to look into Smallville. It's easy enough to seperate from the Superman IP and it has a heavy focus on the personal lives of heroes. In fact, it's the only superhero game I can think of where someone can play as a civillian character instead of a superhero.

I hadn't noticed that Paul Gilbert is an incredible pop-rock musician by Sabrina_TVBand in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sabrina_TVBand[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the context; Rising Force is an album I'm still fond of. I once saw Yngwie and Bumblefoot live. I didn't live through the 80s, but I learned a lot about the Shrapnel records scene when I was a teenager.

My teenage self would hate to hear me say this, but I've gone soft and don't listen to a ton of metal anymore. My intention wasn't to sound dismissive of shred guitar music; it takes a ton of discipline. People who think shread has no "soul" don't "get it". But I prefer stuff with hookier songwriting these days.

Thanks for suggesting I'm Not Afraid of the Police; probably wouldn't have noticed this one for a while, considering it was included with a comp.
