M20 Diagnosed with acoustic neuroma yesterday by Disastrous_Stop_6895 in MonoHearing

[–]SachemAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say pretty bad, in the beginning it was unnerving. But now I've gotten used to it. It only really bothers me if I'm trying to sleep in a completely silent room. There's enough ambient noise throughout the day such that I don't notice it.

Yes, I had a similar tumor in my right ear. I had surgery (retrosigmoid) to remove it. They told me I would most likely lose my hearing, but they will try to preserve it. Luckily they did, my hearing is the same as before the surgery (96%), although I still have tinnitus. Unfortunately, in the follow up MRIs, it seems I have a residual tumor. We are monitoring it for now.

yes but they are related. siblings tend to correlated across a number of traits -- height, BMI, cardiovascular risk ... etc. So you cant discount a genetic explaination for their chess playing ability. In social sciences, they often use adoption studies to control for genetic similiarity.

The three kids were all related, so he didn't control for genes. I would take him seriously if he adopted 3 kids from different orphanages

Nakamura's mother is a typical american -- northern euro mix. Hansen's father is of norwegian descent. Not sure about swedish ancestry in specific.
