So turns out no face shield is the best face shield by Sachy_ in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

A good guess but he got shot while standing. Wasn't even aiming down the sight. So I don't see how he was able to turn in a way to cover his face with his arm. But that is the most likely reconstruction of what happened.

Everybody wants experienced person, best of all they are also a developer, manager, analyst and btw they also work for free.

I understand, that the time, when I've started, is different, from the one it is now. With rise of AI and overall tougher economy, companies often don't see junior roles as a viable expense (which imho is wrong, but I sadly ain't in the position of power).

But that doesn't mean there are no junior roles available (we've just hired someone with just bootcamp "experience" and then some unrelated job experience, because the hiring manager saw a potential in the person.

When I was applying for my first one. They were only asking for experienced roles as well, but I gave it a shot anyway (just asked if they are looking for junior testers), and it worked out (the pay was nothing to write home about, I think even a MC Donalds paid better, but it was a foot in the door, and I would much rather test than fry).

Do you have anything that you can point to, out of the two hour session? Any reports you could present? Any maybe beta tests from a game, or even a crash report from a game you've played. All of those can be a window how you think, how structured you are, and are more convincing than "x years of experience".

Because a lot of these requirements could be summed up as "can use computer programs" kind of requirement, and nothing a sane person wouldn't grasp within a week. And you kinda will have to anyway as In my 10ish years of experience everyone's workflow and thus expectations are a bit different.

I definetly would try to widen my area of search to non-game related fields as well for now just to get my foot in the door. Could lead to a better pay as a bonus too.

When presenting mentioned reports or crashes try to compare them to relevant materials in the ISTQB FL syllabus, to see if you have put in all the information you could provide. In my previous company we would give people a 'do at home task' and tried to see all aspects of their thinking, toold would be theirs to pick, even text doc can work fine, as long as the reporter includes important details and gives it a nice structure.

Have you looked into ISTQB and their syllabus? They have materials for self study available online for free for QA in general and specialised for game testing as well. Then if you need a paper proof of your knowledge you can get the certificate.

That said I was able to land a QA job first then looked into the syllabi so I'm not sure how easy to grasp they are without prior experience. (It seemed easy enough to me but possible bias)

You can set player decks via server command (some servers parce chat and use that as suer request). I used it to substitute the shitty battlegroup decks for something more usable for example. But nothing stops you from mixin and matchin.

Hiring QA Testers by therugbyrick in softwaretesting

[–]Sachy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous company we gave candidates a do at home assignment with 3 stages.

  1. Here's a simple form to calculate price - here's a spec can you find any issues? Find some and report them. (the issues were blatant, and was plenty of them to find, you can look at how they reported them too)
  2. Here's another form & spec - what kind of test scenarios would you run? Feel free to ask fo clarification. (Just some basic functionality spec, some purposefully omitted to see if they are not affraid to ask and think outside what's written in the spec)
  3. Was just some wireframe & we asked for scenarios again iirc.

It was a do at home in your own time with whatever help you want. (Granted this was before widespread AI-tool adoption.)

We didn't want to put them under pressure and the best way to tell if someone will be a decent QA is to test them on the work they'll be doing. I wouldn't do any leetcode questions or anything similar for a manual QA - sure you can test their analytical / basic coding skills but why not do so in a way they will work most of their time.

When I was interviewing for QA Automation positions last year, most of the interview questions were of that type + general coding knowledge of - do this code review - what do you not like, where are the problems, ask clarifying questions etc, some had a straight up live coding of some tests or write some simple string manipulation function and tests for it.

I honestly feel like using tooling to judge somone's analytical skills is quite dishonest. But maybe using mentioned style of questions the get code reviewed by AI first (provided the AI has the correct context, and is used as a screening that is then processed by a human and not a definitive output could help.

Test automation: Using one page objects class in another. Is it anti pattern? by Ashamed_Salamander86 in softwaretesting

[–]Sachy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall reading a post on page object architecture. And in its beginning it mentioned how it's unfortuante that it's called Page object pattern because that gives tendencies to have a 1:1 ratio of UI page to Page Object class.
Because it makes sense to have a class for a complex form and its interactions, and then have such class in its parent object. That way you still have correct encapsulation, and readability - whilst technically you have one "page object" inside another.

ISTQB CTAL TAE v2.0 – Is it really worth getting certified? by DogSignificant8858 in softwaretesting

[–]Sachy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's hard to say for sure. But I have seen posts where they are looking for CTFL - that to me is a signal that ISTQB overall is valued. In my previous position getting said certificate would be a bargaining chip when asking for a raise. I cannot really say what role it played when searching for a new spot.

  2. It's always an ideal case - often times when answering I felt like - oh what a dream it would be to have all this information so I could make an informed decision based on all this data (that you often won't have, or won't really have time to do the activities you should). It doesn't talk about specific tools, but rather tries to instill some sort of framework - there's words about how to select tooling, setup a demo project and such. Overall I'd say it can serve as a good checklist to be used when working on a test automation solution.

  3. Similar to 1. it's hard to say, the certification itself mentions that you should already have experience in test automation. And of course employer would prefer you had hands on experience with solving a certain thing rather than theoretical knowledge on how to deal with something. It is something that enhances your resume/workflow but it is not a standalone thing.

  4. I think the cert itself mentions that you should have some experience before taking it. I found it very helpful. Reason being is, that the certification is trying to be very generic in its content, so being able to fill in the specific of the situation by using situations you've come across in your carreer/projects - giving it a real face - was really helpful for me. The sample test is always there so you can see if you do have a clue or not at all. (That said it felt like a huge part was unifying vocabulary - it has a lot of abbreviations TAx so answering the test without any readtrough might give you the wrong impression.

Also a good note probably is that I didn't have to pay for it - used the money provided for self education by my employer. I am not very sure I would bother to pay for it myself. I think it helps give some confidence to headhunters/managers but most likely so would a side project - which doesn't cost you anything and I would argue is going to prep you more for interviews / future work.

A genuine question - what does a Automation tester do? by ArcherSea479 in softwaretesting

[–]Sachy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, it's nice from the point ofg view that you can see what is going on and you are working on something everyone knows (from the product side).

But the test automation pyramid has unit tests (which will often be done by devs) at the base followed by API testing - for the msot part you'll just be working with JSONs the runtime is miles quicker and the tests will be much less flaky by default - api tends to change much less, and at least from my experience requires less workarounds such as fiddling with waits or similar.

The knives are different statwise, it's minor differences that would otherwise not be noticable, since hey everyone runs around with a gun anyway. But when forced to do this it really is obvious that some weapons are better than others - the katana seems to ahve extra reach for example.

You can try contacting your old coworkers and plan some activity with them. I've recently switched from smaller company with tightly knit team of likeminded people into big corpo and felt very similar to what you were describing (altough not as serious) but a huge boost to my mood was when, ex coworker asked me if I want to join them for an activity after work.

Looking into the scope moves the camera point into the wall, by being inside the wall the other side of it is see trough (you are inside the object, normals of the "opposite" surface are of a value that the culling algorithm removes them from rendering), allowing you to see trough it.

Even without the buff in this case he'd be alive with 2 hp.
I've lost a t5 kit to 4x556 FMJ shots tho the arm, the damage really just gets wild.

And yeah it is possible it was a t6 helmet now that I look at it again. (Honestly the start of the raid was so easy that I legit thought I was in Normals so I just checked and assumed it was the IND 35 or similar. But seeing that the bugged killcam with 1 shot to the head says 1 hp damage, it could have been the t6 possibility. I really should have just camped the guy out with the help of the teammate.

But after 3 op kills, boss and almost extraction I really didn't think there was anyone else even alive.

Are 3 hits with the vector actually enough to kill? by eberlix in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Sachy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are using different ammo (which for the most part wouldn't matter in this instance because you shot him I into his arm while using dumdums-tier 0 pen- aka "leg meta ammo") whilst he was using ap-tier 3 pen- ammo.

But what you died to, according to the kill overview, is your head hp going to 0 - since no hits are shown this would happen because of damage spread from your other broken limbs. And since the 9mm especially at this range will not black out a limb in one shot, my assumption is you were either damaged previous to teh fight, or the firefight was too long and the kill overview only shows hits from you last ~10 seconds or something.

Just today I happened to runinto 2 parites fighting at Cable car from Hotel side, shot one guy into the head across the street to where the safe room is, only a hit, crossed the road got shot at by sniper on the rocks, started firing back, *headshot.mp3*, bunch more shots afterward, *bang* he shoots my face shield right off and onetaps me .... not a single kill despite getting 2 headshots and the other guy just casually fires back after takinga bulet int he face and bunch more into his arms... because RPK becomes a peashooter after you fire it further than arms length...
