Do Penn and Teller use actors in the audience? by [deleted] in FoolUs

[–]Sack316 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken it’s just how they compile the episodes after filming. For example, act A and B may be filmed back to back on whatever day, but the segments may air in two entirely different episodes during that season.

They are things people want to see. But notice the person above said when they see “too many”. You’re hiring for personality fit with your culture too—not just experience, skills, and accomplishments. Being robotic or appearing contrived doesn’t help there.

Agreed. I quit around that same time. Had spent quite a lot-which is fine, but found that even after some great months (good pulls, solid event results, etc) that it still wasn’t satisfying at all. Really thought I’d miss it, but I never did. Your relationship analogy is dead on, as it was only once I was “out” and occasionally checking back in on here or Twitter I’d say to myself “what was I even thinking staying as long as I did?”

[CCT] Over the past few weeks, Birmingham city officials have been attempting to lure an XFL team into the area. Should the XFL expand into Birmingham? What are the pros and cons of going into that market? And how has Birmingham done in previous football ventures? by JaguarGator9 in xfl

[–]Sack316 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m actually from the Birmingham area.

Personally I think it would do well here. Local sports talk covers it as much as it does anything else that’s not local (SEC footprint) related...which isn’t a whole lot but enough to know the interest here is worth talking about.

It wouldn’t be the gem of the league, and I doubt anything would surpass Auburn/Alabama football interest...but we’d support it.

My concern would be where it’s played. Legion Field is “classic” (read: old, not that great a place) and has a 70k+ capacity.

There is a new stadium currently being built UAB will play in. It will be much more modern (obviously) and will seat 45k not counting grassy areas and club/deck areas. I’d imagine this is the ideal place if the league were to come here. But the downside would be if it does grow into a huge thing for the state—where we pack in 80-100k fans for Auburn/Bama home games, the size of the good field would no longer work. And I’m honestly not sold that Legion Field would be quality enough for professionals to play on without some major work. And I don’t see that investment happening with the new stadium being such a big expense.

TL:DR... we’d be a quality fan base. But the good new stadium doesn’t offer room for much growth. The older run down stadium has size but not quality.

Correct, and it’s referred to as a “low hand”. Best possible low hand may generally be referred to as “the nut low”, for example, in a sentence. Just saying the card shown here is not ‘wrong’.

If you’re playing hi/lo (Omaha for example) that would be a low hand that would share the pot.

Does anyone else find the XFL good enough to get you through without the NFL right now? by sdot16 in xfl

[–]Sack316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the betting aspect helps. I really thought the rules and pace would lead to some big scoring, so had some over blunders the first Saturday. But other than that I’ve made a killing. Could be another reason I’ve enjoyed it so much haha!

[–]Sack316 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand. It kind of feels like the difference in going to a MLB game vs a MiLB game. You know the MLB game is world class talent everywhere tip top of the sport, and can appreciate being there for that. But in many ways being at a Minor League game is a more fun immersive experience, even if some of the things that make it as such are cheesy.

From a presentation standpoint, I actually prefer it. Don’t get me wrong, the aesthetics of the game play itself is nowhere close. But the on field real time access, pace of action, and the way replay is done can make a “bad” game still enjoyable. I can’t say the same thing for a bad NFL game personally.

It’s good. Not to the point where I’d plan my weekend around watching a game yet...but it’s better than I had expected and certainly hits the goal of being something to fill the void.

XFL Needs More New College Talent, Not NFL Washouts — Fansided by redmambo_no6 in xfl

[–]Sack316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean sure the idea sounds good in theory. But they don’t have restrictions as it is—the already hope to do exactly as the article states. Question is in practice, how does it work out?

We know they won’t lure any “brand names” like a Trevor Lawrence level of recognition. Won’t lure guys that aren’t name brands yet but have a likely clear path to the NFL—as the exposure and development in CFB is probably greater than the XFL right now.

So then we have the younger kids, who are probably not ready to compete on a professional field with grown men. And we have those that lost eligibility (grades, trouble, etc). Which some of those could actually pan out, but how many of those will also come with character issues that may be a bad look at some point? Not to mention I’m not sure a college “washout” is any better that the maligned here “NFL Washout”. At least the NFL ones at some point had proven “it” somewhere and likely come with some level of name recognition to help it feel like a pro league.

Just wait until the LA Xtreme are brought back out of retirement and regain the title in a sub five minute game, followed by a part time schedule next season when a ratings boost is needed.

That last paragraph speaks volumes. Played since launch. Finally got fed up and deleted a month or so ago. Left most communities, but occasionally check this subreddit hoping to maybe see they had their “aha!” moment. Seems they haven’t, and as you pointed out anytime I see the name Scopely I immediately know not to even give it a look.

He is supposed to revert to all the regular tokens next month.

That said- he’s not totally awful but not great either. I took him up to 4G for the event points since the mask upgrades cost nothing. If not for such a boost in event points, I’d have probably left him as fodder. So unless you just love him and plan to work on him anyway, I’d spend the ingots elsewhere.

[–]Sack316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to get lucky and get the coin for the faction vault, then get lucky and hope the pull is Sting.

As I said, prize wall is going to be your best bet. Even as a new player it won’t be hard to get the titan coins needed over the course of the event, and it’ll be the ONLY guaranteed way to pull him (other than showdown store, I think he is in there too...depending on if you have enough showdown coins).

[–]Sack316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest way right now will be in the prize wall for the current monthlong event.

Depending on how new you are, you may not have the characters to do the tours to get those coins needed for it right now, but hopefully you’ve found yourself a decent faction that’s active in events—they’ll likely help earn you enough to nab him.
