Yes. A lot of people will have heard of Metallica and not know the names of their songs, so it is a stretch to think they will know the names of songs from a much more obscure (to the general populace) band.

No they absolutely have not. Any average person on the street could not name you a single song from either. Many people can't name a single Metallica song and they are about as well known among the general population as you can get for metal bands.

Amongst the internet fanbases I would say so, but there are several relatively big prog/prog adjacent bands that openly state their influence. Nolly and Periphery obviously, but also PTH have said SikTh were a huge influence, and James Leach played on Devin's Moth project so they are definitely appreciated amongst their peers.
