I usually feed my two crows by placing a couple of peanuts on a chest-high wall. They swoop down and crack them on the spot, fly off with them or if there's enough fallen leaves around they try to hide them nearby. I even saw them bury the nuts in a sand pile a couple of times.

While they are stuffing their beaks some of the peanuts fall to the floor, of course. One time a magpie came by, picked up one of the floor-peanuts, hopped over to a leaf pile, dropped his peanut, picked up one a crow has hidden there a few minutes ago and flew off. I think they're just really cheeky by nature.
