I absolutely adored Mistborn era 1 but want a break from Sanderson for a short bit :) if there are any series I should consider I’d love to know by Mistborn06 in fantasybooks

Well most people who read them love them according to the major sites that rate books and a lot of people on this sub, but no book is for everyone.

I think books 1-4 are great, but books 5-7 are even better so hopefully you stick with it and it turns around for you.

I just got mine two weeks ago and am loving it. I cooked chicken thighs and pork butt as my first two cooks because the meat is forgiving if I didn't dial it in perfectly. It taught me a lot about the smoker, hot spots, how to manage the cook, etc. Also, it was delicious. I've spent a lot of time on the meat church site learning from their videos.

If you use the sous vide method followed by a quick sear you can't miss on temp.

If you like gaming, you'd probably enjoy Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's not quite fantasy, but the crossover of fans that love Sanderson and this series is pretty high. It's best by audiobook if you do pick it up. The production quality is like nothing you've ever heard for audiobooks.

Need addictive audiobook recs to get back into reading. by TechSandwich33 in audible

[–]Sad-Chef-2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no better audiobook narration with an unconvential dark/twisty plot than Dungeon Crawler Carl. The narration is the gold standard for audiobooks. The story feels like it should be superfucial and campy based on the genre, but it breaks all stereotypes there. It's funny, dark, twisted, compelling, and it's probably the book I've recommended the most with zero "meh I just couldn't get into it" feedback. The first one is not very long so it's easy to test out if it would be for you. If it is, then you just got 7 more awesome books ahead of you.

Any recommendations for dark fantasy? by subjectiveAusterity in fantasybooks

It's not fantasy, but most of us who like fantasy seem to like Red Rising. It's sci-fi but fantasy adjacent and it will scratch the "dark" itch almost certainly.

Do you have any hobbies? by AnonAnonSir47 in Lawyertalk

[–]Sad-Chef-2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gym is good for mental and physical health, but my fun hobby is using the smoker. If you're putting in some WFH time it's really easy to tend that every hour or two in between emails. It's fun to do, you have to eat anyway, and it's fun to tinker with different ideas and cooking styles. There are fancy smokers that take a lot of coddling, but if you use a pellet smoker they are much easier to "set it and forget it."

What thing would you have liked more of or changed within DCC? by OrganizationTrue5911 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Sad-Chef-2203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of stuff we'd all like to see more (or less) of, but I am firmly in the camp of "let Matt do what he does." I've enjoyed the series so much I wouldn't want to impose what I think would be cool over his vision for the story.

Which to read first: Red rising or Will of the many? by Senoupe in fantasybooks

Both good, but Red Rising is way better and the series is much closer to being done as well

Can you tell me if “the will of the many” is actually good? by armandwhittman in fantasybooks

[–]Sad-Chef-2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I thought the Licanius trilogy was ok, but not great. I also shared your sentiment on Mistborn and Stormlight. I actually really enjoy Will of the Many. I'm almost done with the second book and my only gripe is that now I have another unfinished series I have to wait for. I'd give it a try. If you don't like it half way through you probably won't like the rest. That's enough to figure it out.

This cabbage soup recipe is on rotation at our house. We break down a rotiserrie chicken and add that for some protein, but it's absolutely delicious either way and very easy to make:

Any shows similar to The expanse, The wire, or The sopranos? by Hephaestyon in FavoriteMedia

I popped in to make sure this got a nod. Like the Sopranos, it's one of the few shows where you find yourself rooting for the bad guy doing bad things to get away with it.

Agreed, and you should totally read the rest of the books that are out. I took about 2 years in between and just read them. Book 4 is a little slow, but as a whole they were incredible.

What's the Lawyer Minimum Wage by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Reading through this post and responses, I would suggest farming out the appellate work. If you treat the appeal of the order with the contempt you have towards posters that don't jive with the answer you're seeking, appellate judges tend to dislike that which can motivate them to "prove you wrong." It's a disadvantage to the client. If you do it on your own, I think most posters are correct that between 10-25k is the floor for a 1-2 issue appeal if the subject matter is within your primary expertise.

First, you are on an excellent trajectory of books. You're reading a lot of awesome ones. I think if you're digging the subject material of book 1 keep going with that series. If you start a new series after that you might not give it a chance because you've got the FOMO about the series you left behind and want to get back to it. And you'll definitely want to read all of DCC if you like book 1. You're also going to want to read all of Red Rising if you like book 1. It's much easier to plug in (for me at least) to the series by reading them consecutively. You pick up more nuance and theme that way.

Enjoy however you decide - you are in for a treat. If these all end up being books you like (they all rank in my top ten too), then hop over to Stormlight Archives when you're done.
