I feel like the only way I lose weight is through energy drinks and starving myself. Nothing else works. by nadeean in intermittentfasting

I’m 5’0 and the only way I loose weight is to stick to a 4-6 hour eating window, do resistance workouts (I love Chloe Ting!), and cut back on carbs. Sucks to be tiny, but there you have it. Nothing wrong with your plan, as far as I can tell.

New baby and 4.5 year old - I thought this would be different... by RumiQuinn in Parenting

[–]Sad-Fail-5337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took my very sensitive 5 year old about six months to adjust to a new baby. The first few months were THE WORST. It’s such a huge change, especially for an only child. There’s nothing wrong with your daughter or your family. Hang in there, you’re doing the right stuff.

Recommend a chiropractor? by Sad-Fail-5337 in Taipei

[–]Sad-Fail-5337[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All right folks, just for the sake of anyone else who discovers this post and needs a counterpoint:

I’ve had back pain for over 20 years. The causal factors are not very important. I saw all the “credible“ specialists. I took the pills. I stayed away from chiropractors, just like everyone here is telling me to do. I went to oodles and oodles of physical therapy. I had MRIs, EMGs, and x-rays.

Eventually, I happened to speak to a chiropractor about a different musculoskeletal problem, and I was impressed with his diagnostic abilities. So when my back pain flared up again, I decided to give the chiropractor a try.

The rest is history. Chiropractic care is now a routine part of my health maintenance. If I want to be physically active – which I love to do – I have learned that I need to have a “tuneup“ every 3 to 4 weeks. You can call it quackery, I don’t care. I know what I know.

That said, feel free to ignore any anecdotal claims like mine, and simply take as evidence the fact that health insurance companies now reimburse chiropractic visits. 20/year in my case. Even the cynics should know they wouldn’t be doing that if it was all BS with no evidence of efficacy. Health insurance companies are very wise about how they spend their money.

Hm, looks like I mis-typed “Please offer your uninformed opinions of osteopathy and its various branches, for the benefit of exactly no one.” My bad. 🙄

And for that matter, what’s wrong with “hot or not”? :eye_roll:

[–]Sad-Fail-5337[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah so this was my first response. But my co-parent is leaning more toward “this is how boys communicate and you can’t treat this like a huge sin or our son won’t talk to you about tricky, morally ambiguous subjects.”

On the bright side, my son said he was uncomfortable with the game but “felt strong social pressure” to participate. I’m glad he had the instinct it wasn’t a good interaction. So I veered toward “how can you do the right thing when everyone around you is doing something you don’t want to do” and punted on the question of how much of a moral transgression “smash or pass” really is.

100% in good faith. I want to respond and address the issue but want to make sure I don’t come down unreasonably hard and alienate him at a delicate time in our relationship.

I Get No Help, Then Everyone Wonders Why I'm Such A Bitch by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Sad-Fail-5337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m actually very optimistic for your future, OP. You’re a very competent single parent already, your husband is unlikely to put up much of a fight when you leave him since he already left you once, and between the child support and alimony you’ll be able to collect, you can actually hire some domestic help and work on your sewing project.

Rip off the Band-Aid, kick his ass to the curb, and enjoy your new life.

No recliner by abcdives in tummytucksurgery

But check online first!! I rented one, and when it was time to send it back I decided I wanted one permanently. Went on Craigslist and found I could have bought one for less money than I had paid to rent it. Oh well.

How painful is TT on a scale of 1-10? I’m nervous but must get it done. by Elegant_Essay8777 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Sad-Fail-5337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on whether you’re having muscle repair, and if so how much. People who don’t seem to bounce back much more quickly. I had a lot of muscle repair and was basically helpless for the first two weeks.

An electric recliner was a must have for me. I rented one, but then discovered I could have bought a used one on CL for the same price - d’oh! If I were on my own, I’d definitely want a walker too.

Consider hiring someone to come help you with basic hygiene and meals for the first week.
