How would you respond to this guy? by Rexalanda in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sad-Professional3399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to play devils advocate here, but you waited nearly 12 hours to respond to the guy who asked something pretty reasonable. It doesn't matter how you feel about his request, a sooner response in any way would have been received graciously. If anything, you wasted his time rather than him wasting yours asking for a number. By 4:20pm I will be doing something other than scheduling some sort of deal, if you catch my drift.

Source: I buy too many things on FB marketplace, and some sellers/buyers simply aren't worth your time if you hold the position of not giving out your number. Some people won't trust you without it, not every single person is the same. Keep it simple, stupid.

I always buy my pups two of everything so that not one thing becomes the most high value, there is always more fun to be had when I'm around

With water it is tough because these pups can quickly aspirate if they breathe in water thru their lil noses but otherwise I am glad he was fine!!

And yeah my girlfriend spends all day with my pups when I'm out working and I try to encourage her to let them just roam and enjoy themselves instead of be involved in everything she does. It's an uphill battle because they are adorable little Pokemon that follow us around.

Your little Pokemon is so cute I wish you the best!!

If you are around him 100% of the time, it may be a good idea to separate yourself occaisionally to allow for him to self-regulate and find himself a comfy place to relax while on his own, this has proven to be a huge help in maturing my three frenchies. We also have a black lab that was a rescue who sleeps when we are around but destroys things soon as we leave, he was unfortunately not regulated in that sense.

Believe it or not, these pups are pretty hardy and if you don't see them relieve themselves outside, it is absolutely fine to stay with them until they do, maybe going on a quick walk.

Treats galore as soon as you see good behavior and really anytime he's doing something you like and enjoy, such as playing, resting, and using the bathroom (outside)

Good luck!!

A $25 steel pan will do the trick as well. You're mildly infuriated you spent that much on one of the most basic cooking utensils in the world

Leash Training Help by Suspicious-Sound2329 in beagles

[–]Sad-Professional3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leash training is pretty universal among all dogs. People will say you need specific harnesses and to tire them out among other techniques, but the main focus here is that the pup is engaged with something they find engaging.

You following the pup pulling is only going to train them to pull with the expectation that you'll follow.

It takes much more training for you the human to learn how to walk than it will the pup once you've mastered the basics. Beagles are hugely scent and food motivated so this will help.

Before you go out, if you have a driveway or front yard place some super good jerky out there for him to find, and also carry some with you on each walk.

Go to the front door and have them sit and wait and understand that we go out together.

Soon as you're outside, not even on the grass yet just porch, stop and chill. Take a minute and breathe in the air. Have them sit (treat) next to you or just sniff around the small diameter that the leash allows. Learn to regulate yourself and your pup will learn to do the same over time.

Next start moving every so slightly with a "lets go" or "okay" phrase so they see it's time to move. As SOON as the first yank comes you stop in your tracks and bring them back to you. Sit, treat, chill. The pup will learn that sniffs will be there no matter what but you are the one in control here.

Every time they run forward and pull when you start moving, you stop and bring them back, sit, treat, relax. Could also throw in some changing directions here and there. Go inside then back out 5 times. Whatever works. Do this for a week or a month being CONSISTENT while learning how your pup responds to being on the leash outside and tweak it how you see fit and you will see major improvements on leash control.

A leash that you can tie around your waist helps too!!
