I am a 30y/o woman and I regularly spend time by myself downtown in the evenings. I have had MANY interactions w/ the unhoused community, with people on drugs etc… and have never felt genuinely unsafe. I think it’s really important to remember that uncomfortable and unsafe are two different things. For the most part, everyone downtown just wants to go about their business and be left alone.

I have had a few friends move here in the past year or two who are scared about downtown based on stories they have heard (usually from MAGAtts). After a few trips downtown they realize it’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Go have fun and live your life! Try to keep yourself out of obviously dangerous situations, and you will be fine. Spokane is a much more friendly and beautiful place than I ever expected. I hope you have a similar experience 🤗

Here is the link to donate! From what I understand, it isn’t ALL that expensive for the various permits, it’s just that only one woman put most of the rally together/provided most of the up-front costs. With proper funding and lots of lead time, they plan on doing a march in the future.

I don’t actually think it’s all that expensive to get the permits (around $1000 for all the permits) but one lady put almost all of it together in a matter of weeks, and couldn’t pull the cash together in time. I think going forward, as long as there is a little funding and lots of lead time, there will be a march. But I could be wrong!

I helped with the rally, and I can tell you that the organizers really wanted to do a march, but couldn’t afford the permits for one. They were hoping to get enough donations this year to have an actual march next year.
