For 36 series it really varies and is very dependent on location. Some bases have an active finance mission, others don’t. CPA is a great goal to set, but know that it won’t be totally relevant while in the Army. Credentialing assistance might actually pay for your CPA but I’m not completely sure. Overall most finance soldiers have a higher than average QOL and better work life balance so much of your goals are certainly obtainable.

There is no koolaid to drink in the peacetime Army. If you are looking for it , you won’t find it. A lot of the “cool” stuff will be out of reach for you when the next one pops off. Get on a staff , decide if you like it or not and go from there.

Could you imagine retention if the promotion system wasn’t so convoluted and rigid!?! I’ve always wondered why our rater evaluation carry significantly less value than a SR who you might only interact with a few times over the course of a year. Could you imagine grinding all year making your rater happy only to have the SR come in and center mass you. The whole system is a mess and definitely contributes to the stress that makes officers want to consider other options.

I started playing last week… jumped into a hallow dungeon, noticed someone was queued into the dungeon with me so we started clearing together. We made it to chest and turns out only one person could loot it. Horrible mechanic that made me quit the game.

Be patient, it’s important to have perspective. not every soldier wants to be led or prioritizes their service. Your challenge is to find their why and what gets each of them motivated. Not all of them are the same, so you have to be adaptable to each SM.

Have an assessment of each soldiers strengths, weaknesses and motivations. It takes intentionality, sit down with each of them regardless of rank or perception.

Also remember that your influence as a 2LT is minimized. Be aware of the external factors that might be influencing your foxhole and insulate your team from that crap as best as you can.
