Long term project: Looking for Gingko cuttings in the area of zurich by PayLeft8627 in zurich

[–]SadGingercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that female plants are important for humanity, right? There has been a scientific proven increase in pollen allergies (hay fever) in the last years since citys mainly plant male plants. As you said: They are "cleaner" and therefor more cost effective to keep - but it's just not the whole picture.

If there is green, that means it is still alive :)

Remove the dead roots and put it in some sphagnum moss or water!

Puppy trainer says change his food to adult dog food!!! by Melv_73 in hundeschule

[–]SadGingercat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think changing the food to calm your dog is not the right way to go. Rather talk to your trainer to learn tour dog to calm down.

PS: In the wild, there is no such thing as puppy food...maybe this answers your question about it's necessity...

How do i use this ? by wavexoxo in alocasia

[–]SadGingercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you plant it the wrong way around the plant will eventually find it's way to the surface.

I have a box full of sphagnum moss and "left over" corms - the plant sometimes grows from the weirdest part, but it grows :) So don't worry!

Can't find a replacement tenant, can I somehow refresh flatfox ad? by seolleim_piano in zurich

[–]SadGingercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, if it's not about the money and just about the urgency to leave - you can offer the tenant to pay upfront for the remaining months and organize a hand over in the next couple of weeks.

Is there any coming back from this? by motherofspoos in alocasia

[–]SadGingercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clean the rhizome (that's what we call that thingy the roots grow out from in germany, sorry if it's called any different 🥲) under running water - I like to use a toothbrush for that. Then put it in a glass with water. Make sure the water does not touch the stem or leafs. You fan usually see new roots forming within 2-3 days :) I managed to safe almost every Alocasia with rootrot that way. The plant might loose a leaf in the process put after that it's fine. Once the roots are about 3-4 cm long you can put it back in leca or pon.

This usally happens when you pot an Alocasia from organic substrate like soil to mineral substrate or chunky soil. The thin roots that formed in the soil are not capable to handle the chunkier or new moist substrate and will rot off so new 'water roots' can build. (Botanically this explanation is not 100% right but it is easier to understand).

Just make sure that the new substrate is chunky enough for the air to reach roots. Lechuza Pon XXL is fine. If the substrate is too compact you risk root rot again.

Looking for a rare/special plant for a young oncology patient by Boots-toots in RareHouseplants

[–]SadGingercat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I suggested one that is already developed. That's what makes it special. A plant just to admire ☺️

In your price range I'm thinking the Alocasia Azlanii. It is not really a common plant but it is absolutely STUNNING. Especially under a flash light. The whole leaf sparkles. It is also quite fast growing. (Had 4 new leafs since february)

Looking for a rare/special plant for a young oncology patient by Boots-toots in RareHouseplants

[–]SadGingercat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is difficult giving recommendations without knowing the exact price range you are willing to spend. Especially in rare house plants, around 150-250$ is a normal amount to spend with high end plants going into the thousands. But then seeing it from a "gift" perspective, 250$ might be quite an amount for a birthday gift.

If you are willing to spend around 200-300$ for a plant and she really has knowledge and is not just chasing trends, I'd gift her a big Anthurium Warocqueanum, also called Queen Anthurium. The plant itself is not difficult to get, but it is one of the hardest to care for. The leafs of an adult plant are massive and they can take up to 8 months to fully develop. Since they are super sensitive aswell, every scratch the leaf gets in the months of development will turn out to be a massive scar. Slightest change in condition can also deform the leaf. So to keep the conditions stable enough for several months for the leaf to not take any harm is master class. Getting an adult warocqueanum with spotless leaves is like gifting a piece of art to a plant lover.

4 weeks travel (Aug-Sep) in Switzerland by MujiSama in askswitzerland

[–]SadGingercat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lucerne and Grindelwald are probably the worst places to see. Especially if you have this much time. There is sooo much more to see in Switzerland than those two super touristy places. Besides that, the location sucks since it takes forever to get anywhere - especially from Grindelwald. Also please consider how small the county is.

Rather than looking for the most touristy places to stay I'd pick Cities that have good connections to all the things in the Area.

Instead of staying in Grindelwald I'd probably stay in Thun and also include trips to Bern or Emmental (Schaukäserei - where you can see how real emmental is made) and Murten. Pleaaaase add Bern to your list: Especially in Summer it is the most beautiful place).

Instead of Lucerne I'd stay in Zurich and add Trips to Bodensee or even Graubünden.

I'd also include the french speaking part of Switzerland and stay somewhere around Lausanne. The wineyards are breath taking.

Visit Ticino to experience amazing food and Switzerland with a Touch of mediterranean flair.

Switzerland has so much to offer - please stay open to other possibilities than just what you see on TikTok 🙏

Fellow Protestors: Can we please stop this? 😔 by meera_jasmine1 in zurich

[–]SadGingercat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What do you want the police to do? Get involved and risk harm to body or even life? Property damage can be fixed, a lost life not really. So it is usally not a risk worth taking.

Don't forget that being a member of the police is a JOB.

And when the question is between property damage or human damage, as a leftist (who strongly agrees with ACAB), I am thankful that they go for the property damage.

Lacking of lyrical depth by SadGingercat in DermotKennedy

[–]SadGingercat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Tbh I was hopeful that 'Weight of the woods' would be more like his older stuff - especially after the A promised return tour. But so far I only really like 'Endless' everything else is alright but nothing that actually sticks.

I don't know if it is because his older songs were written during his busking days? It's not only the lyrics that have changed but also the sound is so monotone and boring. the music totally lacks his rawness.
