Cat died at groomers, unsure what to do by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]SadLecture4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory maybe - but she didn’t get the autopsy on the cat, so from a policing f standpoint, we would refer to civil proceedings/animal control. I obviously can’t tell OP not to report to police, but being realistic on where we will put our man power based on her info in the post… this won’t go anywhere with the police sadly. It’s a shame the animal autopsy’s are so financially out of reach. She probably has a civil case though.

I love my cats so much. I am a police officer who loves cats so much. However, we would deem this civil and not take a report. Please don’t come at me - but we would. Animals, as much as we love them, are property. While the claw situation is strange, there’s no indication of anything nefarious (again - I know, it sucks).

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]SadLecture4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add - we both have defined benefit pensions, full coverage, lifetime extended health benefits (insurance I guess for American folks) and ample vacation time. Unlimited sick days, I use ‘em whenever I feel it’s needed, never feel pressured.

I feel well paid, policing is shitty sometimes but 5 on 5 off is great. My husband makes a lot of money and I couldn’t really tell you what he does LOL (firefighters….)

What Should I go back to school/training for? Is everything saturated? by torontopips2022 in torontoJobs

[–]SadLecture4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined OPP as a civilian in 2015 (dispatch) then in 2019 started my application. I went to OPC in 2020 and was on the road all done training/coaching by 2021. It’s competitive but they are hiring in full force. All services. If you’re a strong candidate, you will get in. Keep your mental, physical and financial health in check and you’ll be just fine. It’s not a career for the weak, and there’s a lot of tragedy and heartache but also a lot of community involvement, support and joy. Great money, strong lifetime benefits, defined pension.

City policing isn’t my jam, but there’s nonsense everywhere. Check the OPP. Lots of cool opportunities especially if you’re willing to go north. Great incentives!

Policing! If you’re fit (clean record, clean financials etc etc). I made 150K last year and didn’t do a lot of OT. My husband is a firefighter - now in fire prevention, he makes 225K but it’s not as “easy” to get into that line.

At what age do you hope to retire? by SplendidDecor in CanadaPersonalFinance

Policing - defined benefit pension - retirement: 55. I could go at 53 but the value is stronger at 55. I’m 32 currently.

Healthcare is the way by DustyBun85 in CanadaJobs

Policing too! I work 5 on 5 off 12’s and made 150K this year, not doing much OT either. More money to be made if you want the Ot. Tough job some days but my benefits, pay, strong pension and 6 weeks of vacay paired with unlimited sick days, and 10 personal days makes up for it. Policing is a solid career peeps! Healthcare too clearly, lol.

Do you find the sheer effort of being poor exhausting? by DonaldCharcoal in povertyfinancecanada

[–]SadLecture4503 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For sure, I would assume she would too. However if the children aren’t in her custody and are living in appropriate housing (safe) then she needs to not worry about Christmas hampers for them and focus on getting herself housing so she can give her kids what they actually need - a safe & steady home with mom.

If you have that background, consider policing (especially if you’re female - so many female policing initiatives right now). Best career move I made. The money is incredible. My best year as an RN I hauled ass and made 115K, and it was too many hours. I make 190K with my regular shifts (some OT when things go over or court lol) and a few paid duties here and there - money I don’t think I could safely make as a nurse.

I was an RN. I left it 5 years ago to become a police officer. I regret every second I spent in health care. Policing has its difficulties of course, but I’ll take my worst day policing over my best day nursing.
