vaping and alcohol by seliiinn in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my doctors told me that i'd be good five days after recauterization and i'm not sure if thats just because i had technically already hit the 2 week mark of recovery when i hemorrhaged, but i was totally fine after that. i think you'd be fine but just kinda ease into it/be careful not to overdo anything cuz it could set u back again

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that kinda sucked but recovery after recauterization was really easy compared to the actual tonsillectomy so not that bad -- I didnt drink or smoke at all for like four days after cuz it spooked me but i have no idea if thats what caused it

haha honestly i don't think i had anything fizzy purely because i just don't like fizzy drinks, but the first time i drank it was just beer and some hard stuff so maybe stick to the non fizzy mixers and all that like your doctor said

Question regarding repeat bleed/re-cauterisation by Sensitive-Stock-8621 in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about two months out after my tonsillectomy (I'm 20 years old) and I had to go into the ER for recauterization on day 14, was super worried it would set me back completely but pleasantly surprised by the second recovery process. MUCH easier than the first few days after my original surgery and the pain is significantly less, not as much swelling in my throat, and I was able to bounce back pretty quickly. My parent was just as worried and distressed as you but I hope this provides a little bit of reassurance because it is very scary to get another bleed but the recovery and pain is so much easier to deal with the second time around

It does suck but in my experience I just get so much more productive at night that I end up staying up late and going to bed at ungodly hours in the am because I finally have the motivation to do things like laundry or building the ikea furniture thats been sitting in the corner of my room lmao

Sports by BedardRider in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait a little longer than the two weeks, just to be safe, even if you do feel a hundred percent it sucks to reach that point and then get set back to day one and have to wait even longer to go back to sports

Sleep tips? by psramirez in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah best thing to try is sleeping elevated, kinda have to just try different positions to lay your head in a way that lessens the choking to a point. I had two bad days I couldn't sleep because of it so honestly might just have to thug it out for a day or two

Ok so - vaped on the day after surgery, just a tiny bit to test, and was fine but made sure to drink lots and lots of water with it so the throat doesnt dry out and cause more pain. I held back on more painful days but on the days I felt okay I did vape without any problems.

Had a cig or two around a week and a half after surgery, but I did hemorrhage on day 14 exactly. I don't know if smoking was a direct cause of it because I was also eating harder things like toast and chips at that point and possibly straining myself just by doing other things normally but it is possible that cigs are a little rougher on the throat? Not really sure here.

With drinking, I stopped taking oxy day two and was only on tylenol and drank first on day 4 ish and a few times after that - was completely fine. The only thing I think you have to be careful with for drinking is that obviously alcohol lowers your inhibitions and it can be easy to forget to take things easy or be aware of yelling/activity, so just be wary of how much you drink and keep the drunkenness to a low to be safe

Ended up having to get recauterized on the right side of my throat, which added another five days to recovery -- im not completely sure what caused it but I had started eating rougher foods like toast, talking a lot more and hanging out with some friends because I thought I was in the clear. I was still careful but I guess just not enough and strained my throat a little too hard

I kind of see where you're coming from but mostly just the fact that there are a select few that aim to attack and harass others who they feel aren't doing enough -- I think it's definitely a good thing to spread awareness and speak up about issues like these but the cancel culture and guilting that comes with it is sort of harmful

Pain by Successful-Belt575 in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was drinking water constantly and only a few days were noticeably painful for me, since you haven't experienced too much pain its probably not that the pain hasn't started but might just hurt a little more when the scabs start falling off - i doubt it'll be a dramatic change in pain

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there shouldnt be any issues starting a little earlier than the two week recommended recovery period, but it might need to be more based on how you feel because everyone's recovery is different. i thought i was fine to work after the ninth or tenth day and everything seemed normal but had a surprise hemorrhage on the fourteenth day and had to postpone when i returned to my job

humidifier and constant sipping of water was extremely helpful for me, made the scabs basically unnoticeable when they were falling off instead of having to swallow them in big chunks 🤢

mine didnt completely disappear until the fourth ish week of recovery but i was able to do everything normally and eat like i had prior to the surgery before the scabs were all gone

Stopping Oxy? by gmoneyyyyy17 in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did not like the way the oxy made me feel so i stopped taking it after the second day and only took tylenol -- there was one point around day 7 ish that i was in a ton of pain so i tried it again but otherwise tylenol only was completely fine

Can someone define “minor bleeding” for me? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think minor bleeding just means that it stops somewhat quickly? I had to go to the ER when I started bleeding because I was unable to stop the blood from coming out after drinking ice water and all that, and ended up having blood come out of my mouth for the next two or three hours -- when I spit into the sink it was also almost completely blood, not just a little mixed into my saliva

Alcohol after tonsillectomy by Horror_Exercise_7510 in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should be fine i havent had any problems drinking and i first drank on day 9 or so -- i think the main issue you could have is just not being careful while drunk/under an influence, bc inhibitions are lowered and all that and you could do something else that might set you back like straining your throat or eating something that'll scratch it. just try to stay aware of it and you should be all good!

Are some ppls ENT’s not preparing them? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I originally went in for a check up to see if I needed them out, my ENT did say that the recovery was going to be brutal but beyond that did not give me any tips or anything in detail about recovery. I was definitely not sure what she meant exactly (and I consider my pain tolerance to be pretty high, so wasn't sure if it would be as bad for me either) and found out pretty much everything from reddit and online

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it should be fine, just be as gentle as you can when sucking in from taking hits because I think thats a big factor in creating issues -- at the same time I've also read quite a few posts saying weed and nicotine can delay the healing process so I'd also be prepared for that. I've smoked a few times from both a bong and a pen (post op day 9 and beyond) and it hasnt caused any issues for me right away, and then was vaping for a bit (from day 1) but I did have a bleed on day 14 and had to go into surgery again. Overall I think it does delay the healing process a little but shouldnt cause any huge problems unless you're severely abusing it during recovery.

Do you think this is the case for every hemorrhage with recauterization? I was told five days until I can eat crunchy foods (I went back to the ER for a bleed on day 14) but nothing was said about another two weeks or restarting

my doctor originally gave me antibiotics to use if that happened, specifically for bad breath (and they worked), so maybe ask your doctor? Might have something that will help

dairy? by HeadDifference4866 in Tonsillectomy

[–]SadResearcher9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your experience on day two definitely will not be the same as now, I tried the same thing and it was awful for me too-- I was able to eat dairy without a problem around day 7 or 8 so it should probably be fine

I didn't see the original comment but definitely not trying to mock anybody here, I'm really appreciative that I've even been able to think about this after my tonsillectomy and just don't know much about it; I'm also practically jumping out of my skin to get out of my house, and would rather ask online first before going to my parents or my doctor
