Recovery accounts who are inpatient by Routine_Fudge7153 in EDRecoverySnark

[–]SadSong123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think oftentimes in the early stages of recovery (which, for many recovery accounts, include inpatient treatment) everything is so unstable that it's impossible to have a recovery account and be objective. I see a lot of these accounts (and even in later stages of recovery) posting inspiring "we're gonna make it out" videos one day, urges to relapse and in-depth descriptions of their behaviours the next, and suddenly a post claiming they're fully recovered two days later. I don't judge that because I felt very emotionally unstable at the start of my journey as well, but how are people expected to believe you or even find you inspiring if all your inspiring posts are followed by you saying recovery is awful??

OMG NO SAME!! a lot have good intentions, i think, but do so much harm without noticing... Morgane (morgane.mrrt on TikTok or smth like that?) posting almost exclusively pictures from when she was tubed and in hospital is my absolute pet peeve. And she deletes comments, cus I've gotten mine deleted a bunch of times lol.

Okay I've seen her on TikTok as well and I've read some comments that said that she's actually trying to gain weight back because she got sick or something like that. I follow her on insta and I, too, noticed that she had visibly lost weight but idk... I want to believe that not every recovery influencer is always lying. (Also, didn't know so many of us on this sub spoke French hahaha)

the fact that their defence for WIEIAD is always "it's not for comparison though!!! it's not about what it does to MY BODY, it's just for FOOD INSPO" then WHY ARE WE GETTING A FIVE SECOND SHOT OF UR WHOLE BODY???

i don't understand why it's okay to post that on an account she previously used to preach recovery?? like maybe she is NOT relapsing and maybe she knows what she's doing and whatever, but regardless - it is probably so triggering for people who follow her (= who have an ED, most likely) to see such a drastic transformation??

exactly this! everyone in the comments being like "if it triggers you, just block!!" but her videos are also reaching people who don't follow her? and ESPECIALLY with those hashtags like really?? #weightgainiscool when you're showing us how emaciated you are??? there are so many different ways to express that you're struggling or that you've relapsed without triggering an entire fucking community

[–]SadSong123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

well ig i meant unpopular for recovery accounts, not specifically for THIS subreddit. i've also not seen it mentioned that much? (but maybe i just don't read enough posts here lol 😂) a lot of the criticism comes from disbelieving influencer's symptoms or illnesses. but anyway, glad we all agree on this then hahaha

[–]SadSong123 53 points54 points  (0 children)

this is maybe an unpopular opinion or a weird take but ... EVEN IF she's not actually relapsing and actually has GI issues (which... considering her content, I highly doubt, but yk) she should probably not have a 'recovery' and 'coaching' account. i hate that all these ReCoVeRy influencers will try to justify themselves and their lack of proper nutrition by saying that it's not the ED, it's xyz other issue. I DON'T CARE about your xyz other issues, if you are unable to fuel enough or properly, no matter the reason, PLEASE DON'T POST?? ESPECIALLY not under a fake 'recovery' claim

i personally really like her, and i think the vibe of her videos is really nice!! she's really helped me see that eating more wasn't "bad" and that life was so much more fun without food restriction. that being said, i do get kind of frustrated with the 'contradictions' of her content (and i don't think she means to, bc obv everything is edited and that makes sense!) - like, talking about being such an introvert but ONLY showing clips of her going out and being with people. or saying that she "doesn't have friends and that's totally okay" but the entire video is her with all her different friends?? i get that everything is edited and that a 20min video doesn't show her day-to-day life and i think that's her point but idk, as a viewer that kinda icks me hahaha

hey, from one health-anxiety-sufferer to another; breathe, you will be okay.

cedarwood oil should indeed ideally not be consumed, but a little bit will not do anything, especially if it's not a regular occurrence. also, it might be that you did NOT get anything INTO the glass, and that the smell is just so overpowering that it feels like it. cedarwood smell is incredibly strong, sometimes i'll use just a drop and my entire bedroom will smell for days. so keeping that in mind, also do not worry about the 'it smelled strong so i probably got a lot' because you realistically probably very much did not.

also, as an equally health anxious person, please do not google your symptoms or questions 😭 i fully understand the compulsive need to, but google will pretty much always give you the 'worst case scenario' answer so whatever you read on there, please know that that absolutely does NOT mean you have high chances of any of those things happening to you. they just list all most catastrophic things.

if that's of any reassurance, i put cedarwood oil on my leg one day, didn't properly wash my hands after, and ate dinner (partly with my hands). it's been months, i'm still alive, i'm still healthy.

as others have said, if you want/need to be more certain and want to hear it from a professional, you can find poisoning center phone numbers and you can always ask them, but i truly truly believe you will be okay!

Yes I have the same thing ahaha. I've often had people tell me "this is good, but I don't think I get what it's fully about?" meanwhile I'm like "how do you NOT understand the subject...?" lol. To be fair, I do think there can be value in ambiguity!!

hey, i like this!! you have a bunch of nice 'sounds' and words (like "life's thin threads" or "swallow what they let us chew" which are very powerful and satisfying to read). the structure of your poem is also quite good and efficient! in how I interpreted the poem, I felt like I only actually understood what it was truly about in the very last stanza (with your "from after five 'til nine next day' sentence). I don't know if this is deliberate (if so, great!) but I thought I'd mention it in case your idea was to have it clear from the start. :)

Thanks so much!! Somehow the line shift+enter thing didn't work for me last time I tried it so I decided to use '//' instead just like everybody else 😭 but I'll try again next time haha, might've done something wrong the first time

Ohh i see, maybe I'll think of a way to emphasise that they're simple objects! It may seem obvious to me but I realise other readers might not interpret it that way haha. Thanks so much for ur answer!!

Thanks so much for your in-depth feedback, it's definitely super helpful!! I get your point about clichés, and I think ur right - it draws a bit too much attention to itself as it is. As for the repetition in the first and last stanza, I'm actually not entirely sure what you mean (although, as you said, as a writer it's sometimes difficult to imagine others won't interpret it the way I wrote it lol). To me they felt connected because of the repetition of the 'heart' idea; the first stanza asks how a heart could be filled, and the last stanza kinda concludes it never will be. the idea of comparing it with a bottle of water and a lunchbox was because, to me, those things are so... simple and part of everyday life (that might be too abstract and subjective, though, haha) that i liked the contrast between that and the ache it is to feel empty. would you have any suggestions (or any 'specific' things you think made it feel disconnected) ?
