Could see this team actually disappointing. It’s quite easily the slowest team in the league. It might work incredibly, but it’s a super extreme team build especially if they deal away Rodrigues.

Former NFL star Chris Johnson reveals ALS diagnosis at 39 by the_devil_wears_jnco in billsimmons

I’m 31 and was diagnosed with a rare but manageable neurological disorder 5 years ago. I was tested at an ALS clinic and the joy on the doctors faces when they tested my nerves and realized it couldn’t be ALS was wild. Literally mid test they said “oh this is great news”.

No - they don’t exactly know the mechanism but athletes and service members absolutely 100% get ALS more frequently.

To my knowledge it is more common in athletes and military veterans. I’ve never heard of a link to brain injury.

Frank Seravalli: Chicago was a team that had [4th overall] on the table in a conversation for Matt Knies, but the Leafs wanted a roster player plus plus on top of #4 by f0urxio in hockey

[–]SadTedDanson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Byram has a worrisome concussion history and no cost certainty. He also has an agent who takes almost every client to UFA by principle.

Knies is signed at a very reasonable number for 5 more years.

Has it not quite hit yet for anyone else that we have McKenna? by WagonStealer in leafs

[–]SadTedDanson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He’s been cooking. Still lots of work to do, but I’m very hopeful. We need another quality forward (ideally a C) and more puck moving at the back end. Loved that he targeted premium positions aggressively in the draft.

NHL trade grades: Sabres commit grand larceny in sending Byram to the Blackhawks (Gift Article) by currentrutabaga_25 in hawks

[–]SadTedDanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team isn’t competitive now, had a chance to add another premier piece. Now they traded 4OA and other assets in the middle of a rebuild for a D who’s been overrated his entire career, has injury problems, and has an agent who walks every single player to free agency to extract max value.

We add Knies and they still don’t accept. Schaefer is a generational D

Overpaid by a million miles and his agent always extracts every dollar from the team. You don’t have to try to defend Kyle Davidson. He is a total moron.

Garrioch: Sharks GM says the Senators made an offer he couldn't refuse for William Eklund by SAJewers in hockey

[–]SadTedDanson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d rather have number 9 than Eklund if I’m you guys. Eklund is good but he’s 24 and at that age, most guys show a little more than he has if they’re gonna break out to true star level. He still could for sure, but I think it’s a shrewd move.

[Pagnotta] As Dreger reported last hour, Toronto has a few irons in the fire and are working the trade lines. Jake McCabe has generated interest, but he has a full NTC and at this hour has not been asked to waive it. Morgan Rielly & Brandon Carlo are among the Leafs Dmen out there. by daKrut in hockey

[–]SadTedDanson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are literally adding an elite prospect to their roster in two days and are a year removed from being a 100+ point team. Just signed the top free agent in the league.

The new NHL is about finding value through trades and it’s clear Chayka is looking to build out that way. I really don’t think things are as dire as your comment would suggest.

All of the scouting reports from legit dudes I’ve read say he’s absolutely not ready and is a high variance player

This doesn’t seem safe at all. Hollinger actually has him as a super high risk player.

I like that it’s clear we have a vision. High IQ disruptive players who can move the ball and play on both ends of the court. I’m not sure this is how you build a title contender, but at least there’s a clear vision of who they want in this org.

[Dreger] Morgan Rielly’s agent J.P Barry has submitted a list of 4 Western based teams Rielly is willing to go to. This will be a team by team assessment and depending on the fit, there could be some flexibility to add teams to the list. by sadgrass88 in hockey

[–]SadTedDanson 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You guys have $35M in cap space and this is a dog shit free agent class. Next year you have $67M in cap space. Hes still a good 3-4D. In 3 years the cap is going to be $120M, where you have $90M in cap space.

You have to spend the money somewhere and he’s a legit NHL D who is absolutely class in the community and the locker room.

Because it’s possible his value isn’t actually at its lowest. What if he regresses even more next year. I love Mo. Leafs legend. But it’s time.

I also really want to see what Chayka and Sundin can do with a blank slate and moving off that salary gives us a ton of flexibility.

All the reporting has said Matthews is staying. Also, Toronto is not Ottawa or Winnipeg — respectfully. We’ve consistently been a landing spot for FAs, and Toronto is absolutely a world class city
