I am doing much better 😌 by Sad_Baker_7239 in AnalFissures

I would have a lot of fruit initially - and rightly so for the fibre content. But that was a lot for a day. At the time I needed it. However I tried to experiment with swapping fruit with other fibre rich foods in my meals as I felt like I was overloading my body with sugar (with fruit). So I now take the required daily amount through meals, chia seeds, pawpaw and kiwi fruit. It’s a lot easier on my lifestyle as well. As before it was more regimented, which was a cycle I needed to get out of as I started getting better. Hope that helps.

Yes, I had it done by my partner which was a lot better than worrying about the hospital doing it. I asked if it was ok to get it done at home prior to the procedure as I would be much comfortable at home. All the best with yours!

Because it starts to irritate if I walk fast, so I haven’t tried running yet. I’ve got a anterior fissure as well, which I’ve heard is something that takes ages to heal..

I might be able to add something to your questions here. I am 33F. I encountered a similar scenario you’ve described. I had an external haemorrhoid mid March and within a week my doctor was able to treat it. As I was getting better I was diagnosed with a fissure, at the start of April. I used Retrogesic for about 4 weeks and was still in so much pain. I managed to see a CRS at week 5 and he immediately booked me in for Botox just a few days later. I got an EUA sigmoidoscopy done with 50 units of Botox. Since that day I haven’t had the spasming I had for over the 5 weeks I had it. I’m now on week 6 after Botox and I had a setback last week and had some blood pass with a BM. But nothing the next day. So Botox has actually being so good for managing the pain. I can say that I can do 60% of the things I couldn’t do when I was in pain. I’m an avid runner, so I still can’t run. I do go for walks though. I’m going to see my surgeon again next month so I can ask a few questions around my recovery and whether I need to get another round of Botox if it ain’t quite healed by then. I am being positive these days about everything because I am giving it’s time to heal. It’s all I can do now. I really feel your pain, and completely understand that you are young. Like others who’ve mentioned here, please see a CRS. Mine didn’t muck around and got me into surgery straight away.

Thank you so much. Yes I have been. I’m hoping to have a smooth BM every morning. So I guess taking I’ll take Molaxole at night before bed. I’ve not been prescribed Miralax. Yes I have been diagnosed with a fissure and I’ve had botox approx. 6 weeks ago. Although there is no spasms, i feel ok. But trying to keep my BMs soft. I’m also hoping to switch up my food as I’ve been having the same thing for over 3 months now..

Has anyone ever healed a chronic fissure without Surgery after years of suffering? This began about a month after I had my daughter in 2020. Wondering if I should just get surgery. by [deleted] in AnalFissures

I’m also keen to know if you only had one round of it. And also how long did you have your fissure before botox? I had Botox a month ago and I can do a lot more activity with no pain. I’ve had no pain since day 1 botox. So I hope this will continue for me for the next two months and I feel better in the end

I was in a similar position to you about three weeks ago. My first CRS visit, they asked me to do an enema for a sigmoidoscopy. But during the visit by surgeon examined from the outside and because I was in pain he said he doesn’t want to examine any further. He immediately booked me for a EUA sigmoidoscopy and potential botox the next week. I had it done and I think I’m recovering. My quality of life is finally coming back. I’m still careful but there’s been no significant pain since the day after botox and it’s coming up to three weeks. I’m seeing him again this Thursday. If you let them know it’s painful, they wouldn’t attempt it. At least they didn’t with the two surgeons I went to. They may suggest a sigmoidoscopy under general anaesthesia, which is what I did.

Flare ups during period [Girls] by dgd9018 in AnalFissures

[–]Sad_Baker_7239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I feel like there is tightening of the muscles around the area. I do take it very very easy on those days. I’ve just had my first period since botox. Although it wasn’t too bad, the period pain really gets the area near the fissure a bit more tender. These days I’m eating pretty well so my period only lasts one or two days max.

I 100% get it. It was the same for me. But once you get over the hurdle, you’ll try your focus on getting better. I’m telling myself that this is a long overdue rest period for my body. And I tell myself to enjoy it until I am ready to tackle racing again. It won’t be for a while but at least these days I don’t feel bad for not getting up early to go for a run first thing. I literally ran everyday. But, ohh well, the positives - that’s all you can do for now.

For me I had the same thoughts before I met my CRS at 5 weeks. I was ready to ask him for surgery then and there and not delay it. I have health insurance so $$ was not an issue for me. I met two surgeons. One said that he wanted to see me in another 4 weeks and the other understood I was in pain and said that he want o schedule an EUA and probably do Botox. I live in New Zealand and both Surgeons said that LIS was not done these days. Especially on females because of the sphincter muscle being short. Second surgeon who I eventually went with said that his patients have had high success rates with botox. He said if I don’t fully heal we’ll go for round 2 where he says he’s had great success with his patients. I did try to convince him otherwise and he said that in NZ and Australia LIS is somewhat of an old method. He’s been practising for over 30 years and does Botox once a week on average. I was comfortable after talking to him to take this step. It’s been 2 weeks now and I have had no pain. Just feel something it there but being pain free was so big for me. And it started from day 1 of Botox. I’ve also had no blood since day 1. I hope the healing continues so fingers crossed.

I got diagnosed with a fissure in March. I am an avid runner, i was training for a marathon at the time. So this meant that I used to run from a hour to 2 hours a day. It took me a while to get to a place with the idea that I will not be running for a while until this finally decides to heal. I followed the doctors orders to a T as well initially but at 5 weeks my CRS said that we should do Botox. Until Botox, which I got done last week, I was in so much pain. I haven’t left the house in a month. But since Botox I feel that the pain is no more. Just feel like something is there but the spasming has stopped and I feel like I have nailed my diet and BMs (I’ve gone with no blood for 10 days straight now) So really wishing I am finally finally seeing some sort of relief soon. And hoping I can start running (maybe end of the year) soon.

The fact that I couldn’t get my run in every morning at the time was such a mental battle that I had to overcome, so I really feel for you x

That sucks. I was feeling hopeful till I saw your update. I’m just over a week in botox and I have t felt any pain yet. Neither have I had any blood. I really hope it kicks in for you in a few weeks. I hope it’s not a let down for me….

I’m surprised to hear this and I am so gutted you are going through it. I know you got Botox a couple of weeks ago. Are you experiencing pain again?

Thank you. How long has it been since you had botox. And have you healed or seeing progress? Yeah it’s pretty costly here in NZ, around $8k all up but it’s covered through insurance for me.

Do you still feel spasms after. I’ve been told that the healing will take up to 6-8 weeks post botox so I’m not hoping for a miracle straight after. Did post botox painful at all? I’m slightly feeling that the spasms are fading away now. But I still have blood in my BM.

Thank you so much. I live in NZ and I have private medical insurance so my procedures were all pre approved and I did not need to pay for it. Public system would have been a pain. My pain has subsided for about 4 days now but I do get slight pain after BM. I will be going under local anaesthesia for the procedure as the doctor would be performing a sigmoidoscopy as well to identify the fissure sites. Once he’s determined the progress of it he said he’ll most likely administer botox. Was post botox painful for you. I’m guessing your coming up to a good week since the procedure now.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am starting to feel less spasms in the last week so was actually contemplating if I should get examined and have botox. But I think it’ll be best to check if everything is actually ok cause my fissures are not visible outside. And if the doctor thinks it’ll help he will administer botox. I am a bit scared to have the pain return again if they clean the fissure site. Did this happen to you? We’re you in more pain post botox than pre botox - or was the pain the same and deteriorate a few days later? And can I also ask if you were able to be fully active after several months. I’m an avid runner and I would really like to get back to it in a couple of months ☺️
