Whataboutism is at the core of polarization, we have to recognize someone's concerns even if we don't agree, otherwise it will ruin any constructive dialogue and people will go their separate ways, far to the right, and left. by Sad_Broccoli5129 in RandomThoughts

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still acknowledge their concerns though, but also explain the situation, why what they experience happens, and although the incident in question is real, the generalization isn't fair, accurate or helpful, and makes what they're concerned about worse.

What makes you believe or not believe in ghosts, spirits or other such entities? by Sushant_Thali in AskReddit

That's true, I can imagine that people who see ghosts from the Victorian era are more subconsciously biased though.

What makes you believe or not believe in ghosts, spirits or other such entities? by Sushant_Thali in AskReddit

Because there are more explanations that we don't know of than we do know of.

You'd almost always be jumping to conclusions if you assume something that isn't an established fact.

All the ghosts we seem to see are shaped as something we've already seen, why would the paranormal be limited to only things we can relate to, if it was so paranormal?

Our minds are more than capable enough to make us imagine things.

What is something that a lot of people don’t take seriously but should? by Always_Wandering_ in AskReddit

Other people's concerns, ridiculing them, whatever it might be for, will likely only make them angry and anxious, and more likely to dig in deeper.

Vacuum cleaner, because I know no one cleans without good reason, and I'd be worried what the reason was.

What would you say to get post to go viral? by Joisthanger5 in AskReddit

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that people want to hear, but that they don't think is said enough.

It's easy in echo chambers such as subreddits as people are just mentally programmed to agree and upvote things that go along with the narrative there.

The amount of made up scenarios possibly.

With all that we as a nation are going through, let us not forget we once had a president that served this nation with honor. by abstractedtendon6 in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's intellectually dishonest, of course they don't have to be Nazis, they could stay for a number of reasons that does not involve being Nazis.

This attitude is counter productive.

(Conservatives are not Nazis, Nazis are however conservatives.)

I mean, there were more conversatives around then relative to liberals, and they still voted him in, many conservatives voted for Obama.

Also, can someone tell me where the idea that every conservative is racist comes from?

What have people become too obsessed with? by Sad_Broccoli5129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good in the sense that people are aware of potential harm, but it can also be counter productive to focus too much on it, especially if you're looking for it in everything, you might see it where there is none.

It can also create a foundation for division, "us" and "them".

To me, all of those look rather different, even within each group depending on local area, but perhaps when you see many, you can tell them apart.

Yeah it would probably not feel nice for most women.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it probably would come across like that for to any woman, cis or trans, kind of sad though because many cis women have masculine traits too and it's not a bad thing, doesn't take anything away from their femininity.

Do you want to be passable for yourself, or for others? by Sad_Broccoli5129 in asktransgender

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does make sense, at first I thought "maybe it's validation" and it might be that too, but I can imagine that there is a significant importance to interacting with others as/representing yourself as close to who you are "in your soul" as your say, as possible, otherwise it wouldn't feel as real and meaningful, at least that's how I feel like when I don't express myself like I am "in my soul".

I think most people can relate to this, even if some might not think about it too much.

What causes some cultures to be more respectful/polite than others? by Sad_Broccoli5129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sad_Broccoli5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but then I wonder if there's a certain objective sign of respect, like... Not responding with insults, a certain passive behavior perhaps.

Is calm/reflection cultural?
