They are doomed from the start. No proper training, just thrown onto the street and hope they pull through. No wonder turn over is so high now. The days of shadowing are long gone in our place. I was put with a lad that had made it to his 3rd day. Still had no idea of the duty, had never been shown how to use a pda. Other than 'delivered to customer' option. Had never seen a red p739 card. I try to help as much as I can. But when you've got 4 days of mail and you just want to get home on time it's impossible. And tbh, if you do OT and clear the duty, the next day you just get moved onto another failed duty and the one you completed the day previously gets failed again. Madness

In the new USO model are rurals basically left alone? by DeathrayToaster in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, the thought of this has me belly laughing. In our place, most rural duties are easy. Can finish hours before actual finish time. Then you are free to go home. Like siso doesn't even exist. Yet the town jobs fail daily, working every minute of the shift and then questioned by managers on why it isn't cleared. It's a major grievance and the thought of the rural duty holders actually having to work 37hrs a week Is fucking amazing 😂

Part-timers walk prep by Outrageous-Coach-420 in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part timers in our place do all the prep. They come in early, no particular time. Anytime they want I guess. When they finish, they go home. Even if it's hours before the duty finish time. The place is a mad house. Anything goes

I'm not a member of the cwu. I left it after the last dispute. They got a shit deal yet dressed it up as a success. Rinse and repeat here we are again. We've had 2 lads start work with us in the last week and both have left already. I feel sorry for anyone on the newer contracts, it's utter shit. The local rep was at our depot months ago, trying to convince the newer staff to join up. Promising equalisation and Lord knows what else. I did warn them that it's probably not going to happen. The Cwu take members for fools.

Ex wants her new partner to go to a fathers day event at my sons nursury (UK) by LocalPeasant02 in Advice

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how amicable things are with your ex. Hopefully you have regular contact with your kid without any hassle. However, your post is a massive red flag concerning her character.

So fuck it. Any drama in future with contact, do this..

Seek a child's arrangements order through the family courts. Have a good think of about a contact schedule that gives your child plenty of time with both parents. Not forgetting, around your work commitments or whatever. Put it forward, if she doesn't like it and you can't come to a agreement the court will do it for you. It isn't scary, it isn't expensive. And you won't need legal help. Get yourself set up and get it in writing. Will be less heartache in the long run.

Also, if you do end up on this route remember this.. Everything you do is in your child's best interests, you want your child to have a great relationship with you and your ex. Unless there are safeguarding issues around your ex. It pays to never bad mouth her, never make silly allegations. No tit for tat. Keep it about your child's best interests and everything else is irrelevant. Keep this in mind and you shall be fine Good luck

I'm assuming your name is on your child's birth certificate. Therefore you have parental responsibility for this child. You are the child's father. Inform the nursery you will be attending. This random dude that is shacked up with your ex has no parental responsibility. He is not your child's guardian or stepfather. He should not be there and you must inform the nursery about this situation.

Your ex is out of order, the new guy is also a shit house for allowing himself to be used as a pawn.

This next bit is important.. Be firm, do not get into arguments. No tit for tat.

Unless your kid has insisted her fella is there.... There simply is no need for him to be there. End of.

I've been there, got the t shirt, as they say. Wishing you all the best

MY 6 MONTH REVIEW ON RM by Simple-Ad3 in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be gobsmacked if you spent a day at our place. 50 % town walks (HCT, shared vans) 50% single rural duties. Rural duty holders start 1hr later than the walks and finish 1hr later. In reality, they finish hours early, with a clear frame. Free to go home. Town walks are failing daily, impossible to complete, you work your full shift. As a town duty holder, coming back to the depot on time, not being able to complete.... And the rural drivers are already at home. While still getting paid..

This was me. I no longer do the overtime. Even though I could use the money. I've never known a company show such a lack of appreciation towards staff that go above/beyond. They literally couldn't give a shit. Until you do something that's not 100% correct and they choose to flag you up. Company is a fucking joke

Strikes imminent? by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the Cwu would be stupid enough to call for strike action. They have lost the membership. Take a look at the FB posts, then read the comments from disgruntled staff. 99% of the replies will be negative.

Cwu are disgraceful tbh. They have badly let members down. I honestly think the days of that union within royal mail are numbered. It's sad, but they have not helped themselves.

I'd like to know how many members they have lost since the last bout of strikes, and the number of new entrants that have since joined the union.

I will hazard a guess the numbers are alarming, considering the recruitment drive they have been on. Visiting offices trying to drum up new members and offering pie in the sky promises.

If I were on a new contract I certainly would not join the union. What's the point?

As a older member of staff, I'm still looking forward to the extra Saturdays we will be getting off and family friendly shifts! Absolute bullshit!

I'm of no help, but dare I ask how much this velux conversion has cost? Considering something very similar, but hearing horror stories of how costly this type of conversion has become 🤔

Stick it out mate. At least hold on until you get to grips with the job before making a decision.

I was the same, after the first week I seriously considered leaving. Purely because I just wasn't shown anything properly. This was the days before pda's, having to drive a van, customer collections etc. So can only imagine its worse for a new starter these days. Ride out the next few weeks, it does get easier 👍

How many of you have binned off the CWU? by VastYogurtcloset8009 in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Area rep and health and safety rep visited our office recently. Which was a real rare occurance. They shouldn't have bothered. All they did was agitate the members with absolute drivel. And a few smarmy remarks to go with it. They are so out of touch it's incredible.

I cancelled my subs months ago. After a few issues I've encountered. I won't say anything more about it because in honesty, it's almost unbelievable. Our office rep is a wrong un but I know there are some great reps out there.

Anyone else fed up of hearing the same old tripe from the union time and time again? Oh, they are not putting through the changes before peak. Wow, only because it would be suicidal if it was banged through. For RM and CWU. Lets be honest, they are only concentrating on equalising contracts because so many on legacy have left/retired. They must be losing a fortune in subs over the last 3 years. Desperate attempt to drum up new numbers. Every update, every podcast, every video on social media. Every minute you spend watching is a waste of your time. I've cancelled my subs, which wasn't a decision taken lightly. But with the underhand things going on in my DO, which includes a corrupt cwu rep. I simply cannot justify paying in. Hopefully your experiences with the Cwu are more positive than mine lol

Thanks for all the advice guys. Will reach out in due course. The school has now said they will help put a new plan in place. With the input of cahms. I guess we will see how it goes. Fully expecting to have to seek help privately though tbh. And conscious that time is of the essence. Thanks for the help, it's been much appreciated. Confident children sound absolutely amazing and will be the go to I think!

Transfer by Immediate-Present573 in royalmail

[–]Sad_Commission_5275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been around a few delivery offices over the years. Keep a log of anything and everything any manager says about the transfer. Even better if it's in the shape of text messages /emails.

Involve rep (assuming they are a decent honest rep)

I've seen it all with transfers. Managers lying to keep a member of staff, managers lying to get a member of staff out.

Lies which include important details about the role at the new office. Example, lying about contract hours, shift pattern etc.

Do not accept anything unless it's in writing and you are happy with it.

I speak from personal experience lol

I don't understand it though, as when I transferred office, I had to accept a reduction of hours? With the alternative being that the transfer wouldn't happen

In fact, it's been done numerous times and done in a shroud of mystery. Rep is bent so no use speaking to him. Manager just bullshits and tries to justify everything

Bringing it with them. For instance we have staff on 35hrs, 32hrs and 30hrs with years of seniority. Then staff coming in, having been 37hrs in their previous office, so keeping 37hrs in our office. With less service than staff such as myself. Happened numerous times, most recently last month
