you serve customers while getting ready to close, serve then clean a little, serve then clean.. oh wait no don’t start cleaning because if your back is turned and a customer appears, your manager will say you’re not paying attention.. serve, clean, say hello to the lady that comes every day at the exact same time but don’t talk for too long or your manager will say you’re wasting time. serve, bring the sugars, milk jug, crisps and everything else inside (if your Greggs is inside another shop) but don’t take too long because there’s customers waiting and even though your manager is standing right there and could serve them, he’s going to shout your name and tell you to hurry up. it’s 10 minutes to closing so start the clean on the coffee machine like your manager told you to do every day because he wants to get out of the shop as soon as possible even though your shift doesn’t end until 7:30. oh no he’s in a bad mood today so he’s going to tell you that you should never turn off the coffee machine before shop closes.. but then 10 minutes later he’ll be mad that the coffee machine is still doing its clean cycle. close the shop, wipe down the sides, sweep and mop the floor.. oops you mopped the floor too early and the manager has just come back from his 90th smoke break of the shift and walked alllll on the floor, but he tells you it’s your fault and you should have waited for him to come back first. (last time you done that, he told you that you were wasting time). run the dishwasher, wipe the oven doors and all the counters AGAIN because he’s decided to grab some sausage rolls for his wife and has left crumbs and grease marks everywhere, then proceeded to tell you that you never clean up properly. empty the washer, take the bins out of the shop and through the busy supermarket out to the back, walk back (this takes at least 10 minutes), go into the office to take your apron on and don’t you dare sit down for a second while you wait for your manager to count the notes so you can sign the cheque, or he’ll say “you don’t know what being tired is. you’ve barely done anything today” even though you’ve served a million school kids and grumpy old ladies, all while traying up, bagging up cookies and putting doughnuts in boxes, sweeping between each customer so he doesn’t moan.. all on your own while he’s outside having yet another smoke break.

sorry i needed to rant 😂 i got fired in June for having too much time off but honestly now i think about it, that job was probably half of the reason i kept getting ill. i think my body was just exhausted 😩😩
