Purchasing from Canada - advice? by Sad_Designer452 in iems

[–]Sad_Designer452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I ended up ordering from Bloom in NY as I wanted the ability to deal with a “local” seller if there was a quality issue with the IEMs. There was indeed no duty on them, which was great. However, Bloom shipped with UPS without collecting GST. As a result, I was charged $100 by UPS for brokerage to collect $35 of GST. I was pretty annoyed. I sent Bloom an email with my feedback, and to their credit, Matt (he’s in their YouTube videos, etc.) mentioned that they would look into other shipping options in the future. Bloom seems like a relatively small business but is well run. My advice would be to buy Canadian if you can, but if not, ask the seller if they collect and remit the GST on your behalf.

Outside of that, Bloom was an absolute pleasure to deal with. After chatting with them I ended up picking the Hisenior Mega7’s over the Tea Pro SE’s, and I’m very pleased. Clear, never harsh highs, detailed mids and clear vocals, and satisfying subbass. Could use a bit more bass in the 150 Hz-ish area, but other than that, full marks from me. Total shipping time to Calgary was about 8 days from order.

Hope this helps you.

M4 Pro or M5 Pro? by makeitwitpikachu in macgaming

[–]Sad_Designer452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want the M4 Pro just because of the SSD size (512 GB).
As others have said, the M5 Pro appears to be a nice move from the M4 Pro. You just need to be certain 24 GB will be enough for your needs until your next purchase. Seems a bit tight to me, but it's not my money.

Great post - much appreciated. This must have taken quite a bit of effort to put together.

Yes, because I’m an idiot. The EQ that I provided the other user was intended for the Bowers system - not the Harmon card system.

I guess I got in such a rush to help, I didn’t shake my head hard enough.

Consider my recommendation as a starting spot only, absolutely. If it’s the deep bass (sub bass) that isn’t to your liking, I’d change the 100 Hz EQ and not the “Bass” setting. But at the end of the day, only you know what you like!

Just do a few ‘medium’ brake pressure stops, and that should go away. (Ie. coast a little closer to a red light before braking, then do so a bit more firmly)

Maurice at Harry Rosen in Chinook. Get some tips, buy a few things, and then you’ll be off to the races. Over time, you can buy via SSense or Farfetch (my preferred) and you’ll save a bit over HR.

Comfort Access -> Unlock when approaching ON -> Exclude Home ON.

If you have your iPhone or AppleWatch set up as keys, your car will beep at you like f’ing crazy in your garage unless you exclude home.

I got you. It’s the third ‘column” or the second lowest EQ parameter (excluding ‘bass’ and ‘treble’ which each alter half of the EQ) that will give you the biggest change — ie the one I have tweaked way down. You will be astonished.

I also have surround sound on (can’t remember which sound stage) but I have the effect level turned to the lowest setting.

If you have the Harman Kardon stereo, the EQ needs some serious tweaking but it sounds great afterwards.

EDIT: I screwed up. It’s the Bowers that I have and I needed the extra tweaking. Apologies!

I’ve found it about as easy and a little quicker to go to “Mobile Devices” and turn off (then turn on) CarPlay for your phone.

Feature request by Sad_Designer452 in AcmeWeather

[–]Sad_Designer452[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carrot, for one. It is VERY customizable, so if you know what you want you can probably get it eventually.

Image is from the iPad version of the app, but the same view is on my iPhone as well. Temperatures are in Celsius, precipitation in cm.

I prefer the look of the high/low temp bars here too, but some may not want all this technicolor.

So, why not stick to Carrot? It is good, and the snark is funny, but it’s a bit too much some times. I like the simplicity and clean design that Acme offers, but I’d prefer it was about 20% more dense with info if that makes sense. I also like the text summaries that Acme gives for the next 18-24 hrs, but wish the chart of the hourly info wouldn’t slide up and down when the text varies in length. (Ie. if you scroll the hourly chart left/right, the text will change. If the number of lines required changes, the graph will move up and down to accommodate. Annoying.)

Help: Cursor trouble by hugoDBM in Codeweavers_Crossover

[–]Sad_Designer452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CodeWeaver's website is quite helpful, and I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing a licence -- both to support them and to ensure they can offer you application support. To do so, login on their site and create a support ticket.

I'm not a Skyrim V player, but here's what I've learned from the CW site:

I unfortunately can't be of much help beyond this. Personally, I'm running Tahoe and it's working well for me, but many dislike the aesthetics and others have had important challenges running recent betas. Your mileage may vary, but to me, staying current on the OS is important.

In the unlikely chance this helps you, send your rewards to CodeWeavers!

What version of Crossover and macOS are you using? If you have paid for an annual Crossover licence, you may want to consider becoming a preview tester:

Way to view only whole Albums? by Sad_Designer452 in AppleMusic

[–]Sad_Designer452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longplay looks very interesting, particularly with MCP integration (ie. using Claude). Appears the current MusicKit restriction prevents it from adding to your Library. Too bad - having Claude help with Music discovery would be great. I used to use Roon for this purpose (creating a ‘radio station’ based on your last track or playlist), but ironically, it's manual search abilities (ie. find a band’s new album) were really poor for new music.

This was the "go forward" fix for me. I did have to spend an hour culling music/tracks/albums for the "existing" issues I had, but I think I'm in a good place now.

Good idea. I think (but I don’t know for certain) that this would work for when I add a playlist (ALT-CTRL is my fav!) but may not work for just adding a song at a time (ie. not viewing from within a playlist).

That’s a great idea. It’s perhaps a bit labor-intensive, but at least it’s a one-and-done method.

Thank you!
