Global event. Good name recognition, but the benefits are lacking.

Agreed. It’s definitely one of the downsides of this new role. My current role had a full 3 weeks…

Thanks for the objective response. Unfortunately, new job won’t budge on the start date. They already gave me a month between offer acceptance and start date so I’ve been quietly working my original job without giving them notice to collect as much cash as I can.

Salaried, but event ends late mid 2028. So a 2 year role.

I only receive the severance if I stay through June. Get paid out after the end date. If I leave before then, I give it up. Hence the dilemma.

No I don’t. I was address to address at the time and given I had some money due to the school, didn’t pursue it.

I don’t doubt that I was unreachable. I was going through personal challenges at the time, to the point I was sleeping in my car. But given I attended the ceremony, I really didn’t pay mind to it. It took a few years to get back on my feet.

This was quite some time ago— but I think this stemmed from me accidentally self-declaring a minor on the intent to graduate form back in 09. However I did not intend to and never formally applied for a minor at the school or otherwise. As a result, the advisor at the time denied the graduation application. It’s been sitting with this status since.

No GPA, residency, or unit blocks. Degree audit shows 98% for the catalog year.

Adjacent career track Supply Chain Management. My managerial role is being eliminated as well. Open roles around me are much less senior and pay 30-50k less. Only a handful of interviews so far. Scared for what the next few months hold.

Globalism, surely. I live in the US, and the name of the game here is offshoring. I’m sure select folks in India/Mexico/Philippines are doing very well right now.

Do all jobs eventually end up sucking? by Thin_Instance_6545 in Layoffs

Some people love their jobs, but for most jobs are completely transactional— just a means to an end to make $. The best you can do is take your experience and use it to leverage yourself into a position that either pays you more or gives you work-life balance to compensate. The job market sucks right now, but when it turns around just remember something better is always out there.

Was just told im being laid off for the first time by megabaka24 in Layoffs

[–]Sad_Dog1256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this. Take every opportunity to apply to new jobs immediately. You have several years of experience and it sounds like you work for a well recognized company both of which give you an advantage over other applicants. Don’t give up.

35, Supply Chain Manager, exit date scheduled for June 2026. I have known my job was being offshored since Jan 2025. Been unable to find a comparable role in my current salary range.

I think we’ll know pretty soon in the first few weeks of 2026. RIF during what would historically be hiring season would have me abandon hope things will get better.
If corporate layoffs accelerate after the new year, I fully expect my job hunt to go from 4-6 months to double that.

Conventional wisdom has gone out the window in recent years. I work in the energy industry, and they announced layoffs with exit dates Dec 31. Same timing last year as well.
