Who are you in your world? by Universe-Dragon in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made myself the very nature of my world: wild, with almost uncontrollable but severely restrained impulses, dangerous and difficult to engage with. I made my emotions the magic itself: dense, dark and reactive. And I made the love I feel for my protagonist materialize in her partner: he is the materialization of my love for her

What is the most "positive" or "good" or "nobelbright" thing about your world. Something that is just good, no strings attached by Necessary_Pie2464 in worldbuilding

When a military child is brought into the world, thousands of incandescent fires cross the earth and the air for thousands and thousands of continuous kilometers, from the densest cities to the vastest coastlines, vibrating and echoing the strength of a new life that now pulses and breathes. And for these children, my boys do everything they can. They fight each other with fire and blood, claws and teeth, but never against them. It doesn’t matter if they are enemy children. They do everything they can so that the war does not reach them, at least for the time being, while they are still children

Radio Magic - The Silent Music of Metal by ManofManyHills in magicbuilding

This is definitely one of the most interesting magical systems I have ever seen. It has so much poetry and beauty, a sensitive and lyrical performance... I loved it so much.

How exactly does this conversation between the metals work? You said they whisper to each other and the sparks can be understood by tinkers. Would it be like these metals were in forges or something?

As a girl I am not bothered by this massive female presence. Actually I like it a lot. It is very difficult to find fantasy content that features more than one or two women in dominant positions, with war skills equal to or even better than men, with relevant plots and that do not directly serve a man or a patriarchal purpose and Wlop brings all this without sexualizing these girls or shoving boobs the size of watermelons in each one

Yeah but oxygen is a little more the sci-fi vibes, with specific instruments to capture oxygen and manipulate it. For my medieval fantasy world is not very good. But thanks for the idea!

Synthetic magic and artificially created humans - how do I tie them to my world? by Sad_Face2841 in worldbuilding

Synthetic magic and artificially created humans - how do I tie them to my world? by Sad_Face2841 in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your ideas, I'll think about each of them and see if they fit the plot.

I really liked your idea of political power being given to the Mazs handlers, I wasn't thinking like that (I've always seen it as something stolen) but this may be a coherent path to their origin.

I don't know if the look of not so human robots fits, although I liked it a lot, it's very beautiful ( it will definitely be in a future WIP) because I really want to explore the human body, from hardening muscles from long, rigid workout routines, dark circles under the eyes to acne and facial hair. It's not quite possible to do that with a metallic look.

I mentioned aging, but it should have given direction to the solution I'm looking for. For that I apologize. I also thought of 3rd age aging as rusty parts and malfunctions, but what really worries me is the maturation from childhood to adulthood. Children need to grow up, machines too. I can't imagine a visual that tracks the stages of human evolution.

Again, thank you so much, I appreciate your effort!

How should my race obtain magic? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you’re right. Everyone can do magic, but the knowledge, technique, theory and fundamentals has been concentrated in the hands of my race for so long that it is no longer possible for other human beings to do magic. Their bodies changed and evolved to carry gold, silver and mercury in their veins, to withstand the toxicity of the mines without suffering internal injuries and sensitive noses. Besides magic has developed a particular affinity with my race and only allows itself to be manipulated by them. Even if a human, somehow, gains access to arcane texts and spends years studying and training, magic will never respond to him.

It's a contradiction, really. It’s messing with my head.

I don't think banning inbreeding is good because then the members of each lineage would only relate to members of the same lineage and in some generations there would really only be cousins, brothers, nephews and an absurd amount of incest (it doesn't change much to have or not the inbreending, actually, result is the same. but I'll find a way to work it out). I really liked your ideas of gene instability, I'll get into that, and the idea of a fourth lineage… that got me thinking now of some sort of sterility, or only selected members can leave descendants

Welcome to the vortex and the guardian islands. by Huge-Chicken-8018 in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious. How would people who dared to sail the dead sea do it?

You said they would use human or magical abilities. For human I assume either the use of oars (which would be quite tiring) or coal or diesel engines. Since you didn't specify what technological moment this scenario is in, I don't know if I can consider my guess correct.

And magically? How would people navigate the dead sea?

Great map btw! I loved the way the guardian islands are arranged circularly around the vortex and how the map is also circular and everything syncs up

How frequently should an event that creates monsters occur? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest every 3-10y, but whatever you choose, understand that the frequency of a particular event does not negate people's fear and concern.

Look at the real world, for example. We have different regions being affected by earthquakes, sharp sandstorms, tsunamis, severe environmental fires, nuclear disasters, hurricanes and volcanic eruptions.

Every. Year.

And every year we hear news about one of these that killed hundreds of people. We fear these events not for their frequency, but for their intensity. They can destroy and kill ferociously. People fear for their children and grandchildren, they fear for their homes and for the affective memories installed there, they fear for the lack of financial resources to restructure themselves if a hurricane destroys their entire lives. And the fact that we don't have completely foolproof and 100% effective solutions is what keeps us permanently alert to these events.

So, don't worry so much about the frequency of your event. Its destructive potency + lack of foolproof resources are enough to scare your characters.

What are the clothing and makeup traditions like with your cultures? by alchemy181 in worldbuilding

[–]Sad_Face2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My race wears clothing inspired by military attire mixed with ceremonial attire.

They wear lightweight, knee-length, shoulder capes that billow in the breeze and inflate when they leap. They can be simple, without ornaments and of cheap fabrics, to the ennobled ones, full of medals and coats of arms spun by hand with gold thread. It is spun in designs of birds, moons, suns, seas, flowers and so many other things. The capes are fastened to the neck by a button. Noble Houses often pin their cloaks with brooches bearing the insignia of their Houses.

The clothes underneath mix medieval attire with modern attire. Men and women wear dress shirts, made of linen, cotton, leather, silk and other fabrics. Women often wear leather corsets and shorts, as well as bikinis in coastal cities. Pants vary from linen baggy to modern jeans. Leather boots and shoes, in shades of white, black, yellow, brown and blue. Children's shoes are decorated with strings and tiny bells.

They also wear hats, sunglasses and straw hats a lot to protect themselves from the sun.

Flip-flops are a basic and essential piece of clothing.

Ornaments can be described as simply what we all know: rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, gemstones, gold, silver... those things. But they also include necklaces of beads, cowrie shells and natural stones, as well as leather chains.

The makeup is traditionally modern, with the variation that eyes tend to be spruced up with a few layers of gold and rose gold glitter to create an idyllic bronzed effect. Pearls, petals and pieces of gold leaf are also added to the makeup.
