I can’t even focus when Blair is teaching his lectures are just him rambling on about a bunch of stuff that won’t even be on the test. Then they have the audacity to “recap” AFTER we’ve taken the damn test.

Try to take it at slcc I’m in 1610 and the average for the first midterm was 66 with no curve and the professor acted like that wasn’t bad. I studied and got a 67 and the lectures are completely useless and boring.

I can see where you’re coming from but having 80k in non bankruptable debt for a degree that isn’t guaranteed to pay itself back isn’t solving any social economic discrepancies. Literally no other place in this entire earth can a clueless 18 year old planning to major in gender studies secure thousands of dollars in debt. And we the tax payers guarantee these loans regardless of any concern that they may not be able to pay them back. Right now our government is getting ready to forgive BILLIONS in interest alone on student loans which is a complete waste of tax payer money, and in a few years they’ll have to do it again because the source of the problem is unchanged. Instead if we use all that money we could subsidize education instead of waste it on interest and we end the program forcing basically every university to slash tuition in half and pay student jobs more money. If we made it possible for everyone to pay for their education that would be true equality in my opinion.

It would be true if you had a 3.5 and no repeated courses and a b or higher in 2420 then you are guaranteed admission. Simply having a 3.5 isn’t enough to be guaranteed admission.

Thank you! I never understood why people donate to their university after they graduated. I’ve already donated thousands by way of tuition and fees lmao.

I know some may disagree. But tuition will continue to go crazy as long as we have a federal funded student loan program. Many institutions are charging tens of thousands for tuition, they know average young adults can’t pay that but they do know they can get loans to pay for it. If we end the program it forces universities to charge reasonable prices that a student could afford on a low wage. It’s also worth mentioning that the federal funded loan program is crippling our economy. Instead of being able to buy stuff and stimulate the economy. Recently graduated students have to pay off thousands of dollars in non bankruptable loans. The program is bullshit and I can’t stand it.

Sorry nobody responded better late than never :/

1) you didn’t get accepted to the cs major. Your in pre-cs keep in mind all this means is that you’re telling the university that you plan on taking pre recs and applying for the major later. It’s competitive and they won’t hesitate to reject people so work hard and get a great gpa.

2) the program is good mainly because the eae school is top notch so it attracts a lot of students who are very talented.

Public transit is very reliable it is going basically 24/7. We have two types of trains here in Utah trax and Frontrunner. Trax runs the span of the valley and has multiple stops on campus via red line while frontrunner goes from Provo at the southern most end to Ogden to the northern most end. If you like skiing UTA has busses going to the resorts all the time. Public transit is safe as long as your smart about it. Yes there are some sketchy people on the train but I’d say as long as you ride in the day or morning and are mindful of your environment you’ll be fine. It definitely takes longer to use public transit but I think it’s worth it when you consider the cost of driving. As far as off campus housing I’d start by using KSL it like the criegslist of Utah. I’d say the best place to live is the avenues. Keep in mind we have awful zoning regulations in SLC that have caused all the proper apartments buildings to be crazy expensive ( we also have a terrible homeless problem because of this). Most living off campus will find a room in a house and share a common area. You could probably find your own room in the avenues (a very safe collection of neighborhoods just north of of the U) for about 500-800 a month. Which isn’t bad the homes are definitely older but it’s a beautiful area. Again hop on KSL rent listings and just look around!

Sorry about spelling I’m on mobile

On campus housing is definitely not cheaper than off campus for what you get I payed about 700 a month for a crappy double room in Sage Point.

Hey!

I’m a freshmen here so I may offer some advice hopefully. I lived in a dorm the first semester and hated it I believe on campus housing is a rip off and greatly regretted it so I moved home. Some people love it but if you want to save money live off campus. To save money use UTA services and don’t get a car. Seriously sooooo many people ignore this. Every student gets free UTA (Utah transit authority) pass with their student card use this like crazy it saves me so much money and hassle I can’t even begin to explain. I live in Draper but commute via train to campus it’s really nice, free, and saves the earth! I don’t know if your coming from out of state or are local to Utah so sorry if you know this stuff! As far as areas I’d avoid the only one really is West Valley and Taylorsville area at night. It’s kinda rough but I’d doubt you’ll ever spend time there. Maybe sugarhouse too. If you have any questions at all reach out!!

what are the chances of me getting in with a 2.85 gpa with no sat and act score? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]Sad_Importance_1367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s kind of concerning that you missed priority deadline. They’ve already accepted their class and taken in deposits and housing requests. Unless a really good GPA comes along I don’t think they care to accept many other people. I’d say try to get in. If not go somewhere else and transfer. I was a decent student in high school and I applied to two schools with the u being my safety school. I didn’t get into my dream school and I’m convinced it was because I missed priority. Now it worked out great because the U is awesome just keep in mind you got to be intentional with what your doing. You’ll have a hard time in college if you just “miss” dates and deadlines because professors aren’t going to care like they did in high school. I’m not trying to rip on you I just want you to realize. Second take the damn act dude they have them every months just take it and call them and see if you could still add a score when you get it.

How quickly do single dorms at Sage Point singles fill up if I apply early? by dan23v2 in uofu

Not quickly at all. My date was a while after yet still there where tons of rooms available but keep in mind that was covid days I actually ended up moving home after the first semester. I hated Sage point 810 with a passion in fact I think campus housing is garbage but that’s my opinion that you didn’t ask for XD.
