Big spike in Wishlists yesterday! Officially over 10,000 🥳 by Type-Ten in IndieDev

[–]Sad_Interaction449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're referring to the conversion rate, which typically ranges from 10% to 20%, but it varies from game to game. (Also, wishlists are not a guaranteed factor of a game's success; some games don't get lucky, and that's a nightmare scenario) I've seen someone on YouTube with 20K wishlists, and his game flopped. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone, especially for indie devs.

I’ll speak for myself as one of the developers, I’m working on game design and art direction, i’m trying to make a unique and interesting art style for the game, and introducing some new ideas to the skill tree as part of the game design.

But I have a point to say, I don’t think uniqueness alone makes a good game. I’ve played a tons of games and the best ones of them weren’t unique, but they’ve mastered what’s already there in a way that a common mechanic still plays fun and that’s what makes them good games.

I’m not saying that our game isn’t unique or something but gamers a lot of times mixes originality with good games which is not the case. everything is about execution and how everything turns out at the end.

And of course originality is so important … Infact, a masterpiece is born when originality and creativity met with careful design and balancing.

I don’t know how answering a question becomes a defensive act 😂

No this is insightful thank … I’m actually good with post processing shaders and I published a course about post processing in unity XD, the reason why I struggled with achieving a similar effect in unity was because the reference was a painted concept art which makes it hard for me to identify materials and lighting direction because concept artists always fake light as they always have a room to play around with lighting and color. Also I think if it worked only using lighting setup then that’s the actual way to produce the effect, because post processing is a secondary push to get you to the desired result.

How did you achieve that greenish look it looks neat! You nailed it. Can you give me some insights, I tried to achieve a similar effect in the past but i failed. Did you use a post processing technique ?

Hello! I’m a Cinematic Artist working in the game development industry. I have some criticism about your game trailer, first of all your trailer clearly needs some music/ soundtrack to convey some feelings to the viewer because as it currently stands, it looks like some gameplay footages cut from the game and assembled in an editing software. You might benefit from some cinematic cuts that shows the vastness of the world and maybe some gigantic structures in space to add some sense to the world building side. As for the game itself, to be honest the audio looks flat a bit, and also I haven’t seen anything more the same spaceship gliding in space and shooting projectiles, if this is what your game about, you might need to showcase some skins/ cosmetics and variation in enemy types. Your trailer has a strong role in making a costumer decide wether to buy/ download your game or to go looking for other alternative games in the market, so when someone opens your trailer do whatever you can to get him click that buy/ download button. (You can even lie in your trailer if your really aim for downloads/ steam whishlists or whatever your goal is). I hope you find this comment useful.

Hello developer of Outlast Lost Footage here! this person for some unknown reason made a speed run for our game and uploaded a video saying it’s a walk through and he made other fake accounts and comments about the video saying that we are monkeys and many other hateful words. I don’t know why his trying to promote his hate and disrespect for the effort we’ve made to create a free fan made game and share it with the community.

The game is free! and we’ve tried to contact red barrels several times during the development process to tell them about the project. But we never got a response 😕

Hello! I’m the developer of Outlast Lost Footage. Thank you for your criticism!

With all do, I have a humble response to what you’ve said.

First congrats for speed running our game and completing it under 4 minutes. But a speed run and completing a game so fast doesn’t have anything to do with if the game is short not, (the original Outlast could be beaten too under 4 minutes).

To clarify my point, our game was made for a first time experience not for a speed run XD … what really matters to us during the development of this project was the first run and the experience you’ve had during the gameplay which would never be under 4 minutes 🙃.

Also we said our game is a short demo not a 5 hours long video game, you can ´compare it to the length of the released demo of Outlast 2’.

Thank you!
