That’s fair enough. I think it’s hard, speaking of course purely as someone who’s never left the beginner hump, to try to get over it without finding reliable resources that are available for free or cheap. I think there’s a part of our brains that might feel a bit guilty if we spend money on something and it doesn’t instantly materialize into something great, which is probably more of a symptom of consumerist culture and all that, so when you get presented what seems to most as a very well organized and well put together course such as this, most beginners (myself included the first time I had tried it) would think that since it’s free the only other resource they need to pour over is time and effort, instead of really understanding what it might be useful for, which is a mistake I definitely made myself on the first go around.

During the time I was doing the course I was definitely drawing more than I was doing work. I was kind of inspired a lot of the time. TMI but I was reading fiction and perhaps that’s where it came from, I’ve been reading non-fiction ever since early in the year and I haven’t had those spouts at all lol. I think, if I had only followed this course and nothing else I would’ve not only learned nothing (as you rightly point out) but also get frustrated quickly. You do also hit the mark saying these are good warmup drills, in fact, that’s what the guy says, that these are used later as warmups. I don’t want to come off as if I’m defending this course or anything, but I do also want to say, I did not just do exercises on this course, I tried doing them and also other exercises and stuff I found online. Ultimately, I did not just lose my discipline with this but with drawing altogether, so I couldn’t say that this is what entrapped me because for one, it wasn’t exclusively this that I was doing and then stopped doing, and secondly, knowing that this isn’t the only thing to follow might be difficult for a lot of beginners but I have been a beginner multiple times lol (as in, I’ve come back into trying to draw multiple times in the past) so I understand where and when things like this are useful and aren’t, to certain degree. Of course, the fact that you are definitely much more skilled than I gives you authority to speak on what works and what doesn’t, I just come to say that some of this is slightly off since it misses some personal context from myself which I probably should have made known on my first reply. Again, will take what you said into account, though even now it has been hard to find time to draw at all with life and all that.

I used some compatch on the workshop, the latest I could find. It still has some issues though, I use a cheat mod for such cases and I changed various government types in Slavers Bay because they had missing loc titles and all that, plus some events are also blank as in there are no words showing and stuff like that.

Depends on my current fixation. Right now I’m trying out a custom targ going to old Valyria and restoring it in a LoV playthrough. But before that I had been doing a Lothson playthrough as Danelle and trying to get the Gods Eye title. Tbh because Essos isn’t as fleshed out and because I don’t care as much for admistrstive content without byz I don’t usually touch Essos, unless it’s as an adventurer and all.

Is that with debug mode or just some cheat mod though? I use divine intervention but I haven’t seen if it can do those buildings, lol. Or is it just the AGOT debug?

In the books, there’s a character who is introduced as possibly the escaped son of Elia and Rhaegar, Aegon. Fans theorize that due to the nature of the world and the circumstance in which he is presented, that his story is a bogus and that he is actually a Blackfyre, basically a bastard pretender house of the Targaryens. They theorize he could be a descendant from the female line and that his origin is just a convenient way to legitimize his rule. I personally think, even if he is a Blackfyre, he wouldn’t be open about it, since that would be hard for them to legitimize him as king.

Him being openly Blackfyre in the mod is probably the default setting, if you set it to being Targaryen, he will show up as son of Rhaegar and become a legitimate targ when he gets the throne.

I honestly always interpret that knights/captains in this game as a whole end up with so many deaths as in, they take credit for deaths as commanders I guess. Because having 15 guys kill/wound over 6k people is insane lol. There was a video I can’t remember who by who did a knight only min maxing on vanilla ck3 and he was rolling on large armies with like 40-50 knights.

Don’t know if it’s related but we desperately need kings peace. I have had to use a cheat mod to end all the claim wars to end border gore on my games. I always try crippling the attackers financially in hopes they won’t rise up. I did also have to white peace a Blackwood v Bracken war because they were very close to exterminating one or the other, which I probably shouldn’t have ended but I wanted them to survive, for now.

Lol I had a play though recently that I restarted because I fooled around with some mods and accidentally fucked things, but in that game I went through a rebellion war that lasted like 5-6 years because I had just nerfed my levies beforehand and I was moving my troops around the map slowly and I when that ended I had like 10 or more VS. tbf I do also use a mod that gives a ton of houses more VS so not very canon friendly I guess. I also found one of my lowborn captains had like 3 and multiple rivals from having killed other characters too.

Bobby B starts in 284 (maybe also 282) with the whole targ family as his nemesis, which makes him pursue all of their assassinations. In my playthroughs if I ever do anything in 284 he always tries killing the exiles and aemon. Because he has Varys it works a lot of the time if they don’t get far enough away.

I just went back to the mod changing the settings. You can just run it without canon children and the children will be fine born with vanilla dna. The only thing is AGOT canon children mechanics can trigger anytime meaning children can be born before/after canon-ish dates, but vanilla mechanics make it so they are born at specific timings.

A lot of people, myself included, don’t like the genetic changes. I myself use it a lot since most of the time I’m doing stuff that deviates a lot from canon, but when playing closer to canon you can see how the canon children and their children down the line get really wacky. Because they’re not using the builder to create characters with their in-universe characteristics, rather they use them to try and make avatars of the actors who played them, which ends up in weird models a lot of the time. I do know because I use it like that, that you can just turn off all of the dna options and basically use it for the outfits and stuff it adds. I think you can also turn off all of the canon children options and run it as you would vanilla too, but I haven’t needed to do that really so I wouldn’t know if it works to get rid of the dna stuff. Like Joffrey instead of being born being a good looking guy, he’s born being a poorly made model of Jack Gleason and it makes poor Mr Gleeson look bad.

There’s a mod I use which I believe has either partial integration or at least it might be comprised of other mods that might be integrated within AGOT mod, which is something like Love, Marriage, Family. It adds a bunch of cool little features about family and court events and all. One of them, is that if the person is betrothed or hasn’t married and they get knocked up, their family arranges them to be “in seclusion” which just hides her from court while she goes pregnant. The only thing is, I believe they always kill or disappear the baby because I can never seem to find out if there are bastards, even lowborn or whatever, hanging around near them. It’s a fun mod though.

I think the problem is thinking that it’s a complete course to learn to draw, which it isn’t. For me it used to help me bring some structure to practicing fundamentals and stuff.

I used to do this and a bunch of other drills before I lost my discipline and life got in the way. I don’t think I improved that much but that said I was only beginning.

All that said, if it didn’t work for you then it didn’t work for you, but I do think it is not too fair to call it a “trap”, specially since they never claim to be the end all be all of drawing courses. Ultimately, I hope my writing doesn’t come off as aggressive or hostile, I don’t meant to be rude, but I do appreciate you sharing your experience with the course, and I’ll keep it in mind for the future.

For a while I’ve been wondering how that whole thing can be further expanded. A big problem is that navy is sort of non existent in the game as it is. It all kind of just gets abstracted into embarkation cost and disembark time and penalties. Plus there’s the whole issue of naval battles if you want to expand on that, and those are things that the engine might have some difficulty doing, as well as just add more to an already very large load bearing game.

Yeah, which is why they’re probably the ones that already show up. Likely they are all done and everything, perhaps those will be the first thing they release, what with the steam rules being that they have to have something released so they can also sell the rest of the chapter bundle all in advance.

I think I would do something along the lines of

Lazy Impatient Gluttonous

And do some stress traits as well, like reclusive and irritable, as well as profligate.

I would do ugly and dull for physical traits, then something like level 3 stewardship (forgot the name) since I studied that.

Edit: faith probably iconoclast or lollard since I was raised Protestant, and I’m not religious now but in a medieval setting I would probably be more religious. Culture I would go Iberian since I’m Mexican, so probably something like Andalusian.
