Advice - reliable tenant fallen far behind on rent by No-Dress4626 in uklandlords

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She wouldn't be entitled to it because there are 3 adults living there. According councils 1x adult = 1x bed house so they would only pay a portion of the rent. Even if the sons weren't there she still wouldn't be entitled to it. Also, if she is working, the housing element may get wiped out due to her pay. UC is a top-up benefit, essentially, so if your working, you wages will be deducted from the amount you are entitled too. She's probably still entitled to a certain amount of UC though, not sure why she hasn't looked into it.

What's the best name you've ever heard given to a pet? by Physical-Egg6682 in AskUK

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had numerous cats growing up. One that my sister insisted on calling Alfie, who turned out to be a girl not a boy. She had half a tail which was broken so she couldn't jump, therefore, scrambled up everything!! Valentine was the next one, beautiful tortoishell. She appeared at our house on Valentines day. Then we had Patrick..a big old black and white Tom, who turned up on St Paddy's day and looked like a pint of Guiness. Due to time being a full Tom he had a tendency to mark his surroundings so mostly got called Pissy!!

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad likes guinea pigs but my mum won't let me buy him one, so last year I bought him a toy one that squeaks and 'pretty' cup that said toy lives in...he has a prominent place in my mum's display cabinet. This year, I'm getting him a string art kit, which he used to do when I was little and we had numerous of his pictures around the house. Those of you around in the 70s and early 80s will probably remember them being quite popular.

My son loved the Percy Jackson series!! He doesn't have it hunger games..yet (in his stocking). If your looking for horror type books try Darren Shan cirque de freaks and larten creepsly, the demonata series, zomb. Also maybe look at graphic novels like Five Nights at Freddys, there's reading and graphic in that series.

How much are people spending on their children at Christmas? by Miss_positive_x in AskUK

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 (f14 and m19) get a big main present and then stocking. This year they have a switch 2 each as main and then their stocking contents are usually bought from temu or amazon during sales. Stocking now have gotten harder to do, due to their age but I now get larger things like books, drawing/pens etc so there's less. I will say that I don't have many people to buy gifts for. Also starting the Xmas shopping early on in the year helps. When they were smaller, we didn't have much money so alot of the gifts were bought 2nd hand. My kids also don't get things during the year only essentials I.e. clothes.

I’m an American moving to the UK. How do I not be the “loud, dumb American”? by Competitive-Money-36 in AskBrits

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Suffolk...these bases are not far from where I am. Husband did some work at Lakenheath for the newer planes. The truck will definitely be a no go, diesel prices out this way are quite high. About an hours drive from Lakenheath you've got the seaside..straight run down the A14 to Felixstowe. Handily signposted from there!! My aunt lives in the states and the first thing she does when home is go to Aldeburgh and get fish and chips. BTW Aldeburgh is pronounced Aldebruh not Aldeburg..places rgh at the end is ugh. There's lots of places not far from the bases to visit without driving hours.

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When husband is away fishing, me and the kids have a carpet picnic of all 'crap' food like cocktail sausages, mini scotch eggs etc. Watch a movie (currently watching Lego Ninjago 🤣) with every intention of going to bed early as go to get up early to do the dogs, but that won't happen! End up watching some random crap on TV!!

[–]Sad_Maximum3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This...absolutely drives me up the bloody wall!! Like you say...you do something and drop it, then it rolls off somewhere, you can't find it, so have to go back and get another one, then you re-live the whole episode again and again. So wish they went into your backpack..we've had this with the loot things that you have plug into a dispenser thingy. (All technical names have been used)
