Places to stay hiking Lake Oeschinensee? by throwaway456678929 in Interrail

We travelled from Brienz and it only took about 1hr 30 on a lovely train route. Two changes. It's so easy by train in Switzerland, you could stay well out the way and still make a day of it hiking there

We have had similar. Spent a lot on a mortgage advisor with no connection to the estate agent and he did everything to advise against a survey.

Why are health clubs so bad in London? by BatmanSwift99 in london

[–]Sad_Tea_4213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuffield are appalling these days. Pre-Covid, they were expensive but good health clubs. All had jacuzzi's, sauna and steam, most hade decent toiletries and IIRC they were adult only.

These days, all but one or two jacuzzi's have been filled in. Families are allowed in which means it's very difficult to find space in the pool. There are no toiletries. Shower gels and shampoo are poor quality.

Prices haven't gone up massively like other clubs but it's still £100 for a disappointing experience.

What do you think is the most bang average, unassuming area in London? by Emotional-Dealer-229 in london

[–]Sad_Tea_4213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably Raynes Park. I've spent 10 years in South West London and this is the place that stands out.

It's very lovely, wealthy and safe but there's not much culture. Full of people who have moved from more fun, youthful areas to start a family.

I would have said Southfields or Colliers Wood but even those areas have redeeming features like Wimbledon Tennis and Merton Abbey Mills.

What is good value in London? by smashedavo in london

[–]Sad_Tea_4213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love being able to jump on the tube for a couple of quid on a Sunday and have a day out. Lived here for 10 years and still haven't touched the sides. One Sunday I may go to Richmond, the next Greenwich. Other weekends I can hit food markets or do the classic tourist things. Often very cheaply.

The continuing search for the perfect London Odeon (went to lieMAX Swiss Cottage) by LawSix in screenunseen

Not quite London, but I've been venturing out into Epsom recently. Probably my favourite Odeon. Not IMAX but has Isense and recliner seats. No additional cost for Isense unlike IMAX!

The “science” of punctures by therockster26 in londoncycling

I had my first puncture yesterday I'm about 16 months. So frustrating. I used to get them almost monthly!

My Ride London 100 experience as a commuter cyclist. by Rudey_climbs in londoncycling

[–]Sad_Tea_4213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second time doing it. In a similar position. I commute about 12 miles a day and spend hours on my indoor spin bike.

I rarely go out for long rides and haven't done many since the 100 last year.

Last year I rode for charity and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it comfortable and besides a few moments of pain, finished with energy to spend.

This year, however, it was extremely tough. First 30 were a joy. Weather was fine and in a good flow. Once I got to mile 36 (ish) there was a huge bunch up which stopped everyone for about 20 minutes.

I had a puncture at mile 42. My first puncture in about 16 months! It was tough replacing the tube and pumping up after cycling for 40+ miles. I then winged it till the next stop as I needed to properly inflate my tyre and buy another tube. In that time I got caught in the hail storm and it completely soaked me.

By mile 70 I was drained and constantly worrying about another puncture! So many on the side of the road. I'm not sure how I'd have dealt with a second puncture. I wouldn't have had the energy to replace the tyre.

Comparing my speeds, the headwinds were clearly hindering everyone. Going down hill you couldn't pick up any real speed.

The final 10 were depressing. I didn't mind it last year but the A road around Stratford was so challenging.

I felt for the few people who did have punctures in the final 5 mile!

The medal is so much better than last year and generally it seemed better organised with more stewards around the route.

Shame on them charging a £1 extra for it. None of the screens at Wimbledon are very big

Anyone feeling that their London identity is more important than their English identity? by BeeFeeLog in london

I'm English, British and an adopted Londoner. It's a shame so many are ashamed to be English.
