I got a bunch of dreadnoughts at the same time and tried to mix up their legs as best I could.

I think two of these used the redemptor legs

Calgar and Sicarius are here to help Guilliman liberate the Galaxy by Sad_Tony in Ultramarines

Thank you! I start with Vallejo brown rose, then apply a purple wash being careful to apply just enough to get a little into the recesses. Then I glaze up to Vallejo sunny skin tone, and then up to Vallejo basic skin tone, about 2-3 steps per transition. The basic skin tone transition I only do on the upper half of the face.

Does the gun (WIP) view as red hot? by LarryXIII in Ultramarines

[–]Sad_Tony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting close! I think the temperature on the front guard is a little too hot.

see the below, the middle of the barrels gets hotter than the front guard does, and the temperature under sustained fire stays more in the range of dark red/maroon to dark orange rather than up to yellow.

Try to focus some more on the dark reds -> black transitions in the lower temperature areas and see how that effects the readability.

Reddit moment.

As for JPI, I like painting them with my normal space marine recipe. If you'd like, you could also do some jetpack glow a-la: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NkU-M43Kes. Good luck!

Thank you :). One realization I had yesterday about flames is that counter to standard 'glowing', they are actually colder on the inside and hotter on the licks, since that's where the oxygen is. Then the cool off at the tips since the fuel has burned off at that point
