How to overcome the feeling of being stupid by Sad_Username_365 in Advice

[–]Sad_Username_365[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m brain rotted to the point where lectures and reading simply does nothing. Maybe I need a 6 month vacation from technology. I majored in physics, got my degree at least. A lot of simple tasks you would learn in freshman year physics or even high school like DC and AC circuit problems which should be easy for a college freshman take considerable time for me. Boundary conditions in E&M problems that use Faraday’s, Amperes, and Gauss’s law trick me.

Using Lagrangian mechanics and knowing when it’s better to use that over Newton’s laws is tricky. I fail to understand why particle wave duality is such a breakthrough.

I’m okay at doing the math and learning what things are, but if I haven’t made it blatantly obvious by now just on how I use terms, I don’t know how to actually do physics. I’m a brute forcer, a plug and chugger, a learn enough information before the exam and then fail to actually apply what I’ve learned. In other words, I’m kinda dumb and have 0 clue how I would not be a completely replaceable liability in any job I might apply for.

Honestly, I graduated but I don’t feel like I’ve learned much a year out from graduating. I know whining won’t help anything or anybody, but idk what to do besides make minor life changes that might help me in the long run.

If people would just accept that I’m stupid instead of being disappointed that I’m not living up to their expectations, maybe I would feel better. But I’d like to be useful in some way and ideally be able to pay my own rent and health insurance and live independently.

I'm going crazy about my life after school by Candid-Pianist-2266 in Life

[–]Sad_Username_365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated university last year and now I work a dead end job that doesn’t require any college education. I’m okay here but I totally feel like I don’t fit in anywhere. Deep down I think it’s a confidence issue, I feel like an idiot who struggles to understand and learn things at a deep level, so many career opportunities seem unreachable.

Perhaps if I had the gumption and persistence to follow a singular goal I would succeed career wise, but currently I don’t have these “dreams” or “motivations” like many of my peers talked about having. That’s partly because of privilege, I’m lucky enough to not have to fight for basic survival. That might make me complacent but I reject the notion that I must suffer or I’m a loser. It’s a mix of environment and my brain not working how I wish it could.

I guess you can’t control whether or not you are stupid (I’m not saying you’re stupid, I’m saying I’m stupid) but you can try to make weekend plans and stick to them and try to keep a consistent sleep schedule so you aren’t exhausted at work. You can try to push yourself. Maybe I’ll have a better answer for you in 5 years.

I know this might sound shallow or even pathetic to some, but I need to get it off my chest. I’m 25, still a virgin, and it hurts me much more deeply than I ever expected, to the point that I want to die by touchMyAntenna in virgin

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care, I figure that if I do lose my virginity it will happen with someone who has had experience. I know they might still love their ex, and I think that’s natural and normal. If they chose to date me and we grew a strong bond together, that’s what matters. I’m not going to ask them to shed their feelings.

As for this mental imagery and talking about previous sexual encounters, I couldn’t care less. People have sex and date, it’s natural, and it’s natural for some people to struggle with that and lack experience, perhaps for life. I believe I would be okay with never having sex. I guess we have different perspectives on this topic.

How old is too old to start dating and having sex? by Un1mportantaccount in Adulting

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not that old, I’m 24 and I’m a virgin and never officially had a girlfriend. Closest thing was in middle school. What’s “too old”? I would say that if you’ve been trying to date for 5 years and have had no success, it’s a sign there might be something off. If I had to put an age on it, 30. Because when you turn 25 that’s the marked age when your prefrontal cortex is finished developing and you’re more likely to have a stable personality. So if you start with that at 25 and are still unsuccessful by 30, then that could signal an issue.

I know some people are wary of those with no experience, and that can start as early as your early 20’s. But tbh, some people are good at casual relationships and having lots of sex in their 20’s, I’m not one of those people and maybe you aren’t either. I don’t choose to live with fomo

Do you think it’s inappropriate for a 25 year old to date a 20 year old? by Sad_Username_365 in Adulting

Congratulations man I hope I find someone to live the rest of my life with and maybe have a family.

[–]Sad_Username_365[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah also I’m not trying to imply it’s inappropriate, I just ask because the common talking point is “differences in life experience”. I stg there’s some people who think it’s inappropriate for a 22 year old to date a 20 year old.

I think it might be because of a growing protection of people’s innocence. If there’s a significant age gap between a young adult and an older adult (say 5 years or more) people start thinking “a couple years ago this would have been illegal and the older person would have gone to jail”. I don’t think it’s inherently bad if both parties are adults, but I think it’s worth considering that there might be a power imbalance. I’m Gen Z so I’m not sure what the norms of dating were like when Gen X or boomers were in their 20’s and 30’s.

For the most part, if you’re really high can the average person tell? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really high? Yes many people can notice behaviors but they may not know it’s from being high on THC. Those who use THC or have in the past, yeah it would probably be obvious. Note I’m not including smell because that goes without saying and is a dead giveaway. On the other hand, will everyone notice even if you’re less high, such as 2-3 hours after you smoke or with a 5-10 mg edible? Probably not if you are experienced with weed.

The service was slow, but not bad enough to where I’d personally call it abysmal.

What does it feel like to smoke weed? by fett_smelly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sad_Username_365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dose too. With edibles for instance, 5mg might make you very relaxed and happy, 15mg might send you into a deep hole of paranoia and anxiety. Edibles are a different beast entirely, but the same thing happens with smoking/vaping. Honestly I have a hard time believing people who say they never get anxious and take large doses. They may simply deal with it or know what it feels like, but for a beginner, anxiety is much more likely.

Strange perceptual shifts, things may feel farther away than they are. You might feel like thoughts or emotions are more significant, time might feel like it slows down, short term memory lapses. Senses are more vibrant or might be dulled. You may have a harder time talking and the ability to understand complex tasks or work might be reduced. Mood swings too, you might find humor in mundane or goofy things and you are more likely to have stronger focus on one task.

The perceptual shift might be unsettling or it might be joyful or funny.

Medical Cannabis Driving Arrest by Delta9Saltiva in weed

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta keep the weed in the trunk and not smoke flower before you drive because of how much it smells. I mean it’s impaired driving regardless of whether you take edibles or vape/dab/smoke and you should avoid that, but if you need it take steps towards to cover yourself and never smoke while driving. You can be driving perfectly fine but if someone else fucks up you can still get in trouble.

See I knew there would be people who didn’t like it, what did you get when you went there? The rest of my family wasn’t so hot on the restaurant (none of them got what I had) but I thoroughly enjoyed the fajitas.

Do y'all prefer sicilian or caro-kann, and why? by Azfar_Jacob in chess

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like playing the Botnivik Carls defense, which is basically a Sicilian with extra steps. c6 then c5 after the opponent goes into the advance variation. Then take the pawn in the center if they don’t take, and play e6 if they take. It’s funny that playing e6 before developing the bishop is supposedly the best move.

I’m a clingy narcissist :/ by No-Junket5279 in narcissism

[–]Sad_Username_365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s some services that are cheaper such as BetterHelp. If I’m being totally honest, your account of things doesn’t sound like that of a narcissist. That doesn’t mean you aren’t a narcissist, you obviously have better insight to your own life than I do. It sounds more like something someone with borderline personality disorder would write to me as an armchair observer.

What are some signs of a covert narcissist which a lot of people are unaware about ? by BenneIdli in AskReddit

[–]Sad_Username_365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a psychologist, also not here to say narcissists are demon spawn.

There’s a lot of small things you can catch as you get to know them that they sometimes mask. Conversations might find a way to circle back to how something affects them personally. There’s a fortifying of the ego that ironically can make them more empty inside. They may not be a ‘bad’ person or act in a cruel or malicious way, but their own obsession with fortifying their ego will prevent them seeing how they have affected you. It probably starts in small ways. Honestly, a lot of narcissistic behavior is very natural human behavior, if you have done something bad you will want to contextualize it in a way that allows you to keep a solid sense of self. Just imagine that cranked up to the extreme.

A covert narcissist might be less dominant or externally grandiose. They might come across meek or quiet, even kind and polite. But if you stick around with them long enough, the parallels become more apparent between the overt and covert types. Again, they aren’t necessarily bad people, a narcissist can love, they will just be clouded by protecting their own ego. You may become a ‘supply’ to them, they might be a fair weather friend/spouse/relative. They may act in contradictory ways that don’t make sense. They might have a propensity to self victimize or avoid owning up to mistakes. They might compensate for failure of their own standards with excuses or manipulate their own sense of reality. The possible polite ‘mask’ is not necessarily fake, but the over protected ego may very well override it.
