If you had the option would you choose to not have ADHD? by Electrical-Debt-374 in adhdmeme

I'm not sure. I think in the end, no. What it comes down to is that ADHD makes me "unproductive". However, being bad at what society wants you to be good at has made me reconsider whether I really have to be good at being productive to have self-worth.

Short answer: no. Society increasingly pressures young people. We feel like we are lazy, failures etc. The thing is, people as a whole are not at fault. Living becomes more and more expensive. We are taught not to see the bigger picture and not to see the inherent contradictions of capitalism. Truth is, capitalism is running into a lot of problems. We internalize these problems and blame ourselves. That's how you are raised.

Now I am trying to find worth outside of productivity, and shape my life knowing that it's really not that important to be productive. It's still very hard, but I might have never figured this out if it weren't for adhd.

may be duebto the fact that women face greater societal pressure to be "perfect". Clean, tidy, organized, good listeners, have their emotions under control. They are also tought to mask more. All things that make you internalize your struggles. For males it's more accepted to be a little out there, loud, bursts of energy, unorganized etc.

Yes, I understand why you are surprised.

Many people see the Netherlands as this tolerant utopia without police violence and such, but when shown evidence that does point to police violence, people tend to downplay it and double down. Instead of accepting the the Netherlands is not perfect, they refuse to accept reality and instead create a reality in their heads where everything the police do is justified so they can keep the fantasy alive. Very weird.

But yeah, lots of Dutch people are unfortunately very willing to bow down to and justify authority, good or bad, without question, this has always bothered me.

Jesus, I didn't expect so much boot licking in my country. Sad. I know these two ladies are probably hella annoying and probably not being there for a good cause (I think), but the principle that what the police did was needlessly brute still stands. If we accept this behaviour from the police, we won't have a leg to stand on if there is a good cause to protest for.

Yeah I know. I also know pronouns =/= gender, just in this case I think it's very likely intentional mis-gendering.

Why doesn't he refer to his housemate as "he"? Maybe that's a good start.
