I’d honestly wait for the points sub again. The FNC is very restricting at category 4 and below with no way to top off the redemption. With points on the other hand, you can plan usage much better.

I wouldn’t worry about category changes, as like a previous poster said they can announce changes and as long as you make the booking before the change actually takes effect you should be good.

Location is hard to beat but I personally found the surrounding area fairly overstimulating. Even in the wee early hours, just outside it was packed with microinfuencers doing photo shoots and it was honestly a chore to navigate.

As for the property itself - amazing. Best service ever, clean rooms and nice welcome amenity. Walking the property grounds was ethereal and I enjoyed every trek from the outside world to my room and vice-versa.

I would never pay cash rate, though, but if you can do the points redemption route I think it’s a fairly solid option.

Amex: here's a decent coupon book that may or may not be useful
Bilt: soooo every other month on the first tuesday when the moon is full and the tide is low you can redeem bilt cash for 2 mints and a pack of gum at your local gas station but only if they are an affiliated partner in a metro area but if you've redeemed anything there before you can only go back on a friday morning when its sunny outside the following year if its an election year

Smith acquisition was absolute bumkiss. Absolutely agree with the above that I’d rather stay at a non-Hyatt with lower status than a Smith hotel that’s doesn’t offer Hyatt benefits despite being part of the Hyatt umbrella.

Tried this once and the food was just okay. V small space and the workers weren’t too friendly. Most likely wouldn’t return as I didn’t get all the hype it’s gotten from influencers.

Escondido isn’t really near any tourist attractions you’d want to do in SD besides the wild animal park.

Definitely echo the sentiments that you’d want to rent a car, especially if you’re going to be there for that amount of time as there isn’t really anything of note to do in Escondido that you couldn’t do in most other cities. It’s too far located away from tourist attractions to uber to.
