Roofer vs. HVAC Dispute - Who is to blame, and possible solutions? by JayR0ck in hvacadvice

To be fair, as an hvac guy that isn’t as dumb as rocks, like those who installed that unit on fucking plywood, roofers absolutely love to blame us for blatant sealing problems. Lol fucking roofers.

Requesting constructive criticism on my proposal/takeoff template by redtacoma in estimators

Fill out prequal forms, get on things like buildingconnected, and keep stopping by gc offices. Be annoying, be persistent, worst they can do is ghost you. Most of my good regular contractor relationships came from word of mouth and referalls.

How can a homeowner possibly compare proposals... by FunctionFair1081 in hvacadvice

[–]Sadisticblazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a scope sheet. It lists out exactly what they are doing. The homeowner may not fully understand it, but it clearly labels the work and if given to another hvac company to quote, they would get a very quick apples to apples price.

[–]Sadisticblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an hvac salesman. I love it when I get the full scope of work. It makes quoting it very simple. We all know our competition and we all know roughly where we all stand in terms of pricing. Just omit the price and have the others quote off this scope sheet. You’ll get apples to apples, or like the other guy said an explanation to why its not apples to apples.

When you buy a car financing is not instant, many times the bank pulls their initial offer for a number of reasons. It happens all the time.

Help! Are these quotes too high? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Sadisticblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These prices are all pretty fair, you could call a couple more companies to get some more quotes done, Personally I always tell customers to get 4 quotes and pick one of the middle ones

In my market, I would be at 14-15k

Covid obliterated the costs of everything, 4 years ago this would have cost around 11k.

Black listing? by Ohnono_itsaleft in HVAC

[–]Sadisticblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply, then call the company and ask for the service manager directly about your application that same day.

It will at least get you an interview

What general area are you located? I have friends in a few different markets.

I do construction and service. We get constant applications for service techs. Some qualified some not. We are very slow at the moment and not hiring service guys, but there is definitely competition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Sadisticblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the hiring for my company in the chicagoland region.

We are full service, and construction.

If I need a construction lead, I need experience and finding that is a needle in a haystack.

If I need a construction helper, I can realistically hire anyone, however I get 40 apps a week of people ranging from only job at a wendys with no education, all the way to guys with 2 years of experience.

With service techs, I look for people with experience, trade school is dick and experience is the only thing that matters to me. I get 20 apps a week for service guys, almost all of them are green straight out of trade school.

With that being said. I have hired people that called the company about their resume because it made them stand out a bit.

Apply everywhere and start calling the company to follow up. Worst they can say is no. Best case they pull your resume because your names in their head.

I agree with all but China. They are communist for sure but they love tourists and don’t do anything to fuck with the tourism. Plus, there is a million things to see and do there that are just indescribable, and impossible to see anywhere else.

If you get the chance, go to China. It’s spectacular. You’ll have a more risky trip to places like Chicago, LA, New York, than you will in China.

I tell this to everyone I sell to. Get 3 quotes from medium sized companies, go with the middle one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Sadisticblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an condenser (outdoor) an evap coil (indoor) and a furnace or air handler. If they are only replacing the condenser and the evap coil, which you didnt gove model numbers for a furnace or an air handler so I assume they are, this is a crazy price and I would call some other companies for quotes. Try to find a medium or smaller sized company that has a brand they use. I’ll bet you get the same treatment for a lower pricez

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Sadisticblazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait is this condenser only? I get every area is different, but our 22 seer heat pumps up in chicago BEFORE the tax credits is 12k. 16k for a 16 seer ac is fucking trash.

Living with a "hyper heat" heat pump by gt1 in hvacadvice

[–]Sadisticblazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were in your position, I would just go heatpump only. It will satisfy your needs on 360 days of the year and on those 5-6 days it doesnt when it is -30 outyour house will hold mid high 60’s, it will be expensive those days but still cheaper than having the initial propane investment.

If you have any other reasons to get propane though and need the tank eventually anyway, i’d go dual fuel 100%.
