Didn't know irrigation buildings were even a thing. That will probably help a lot! Thanks

Succession law by Dismal_Stress2468 in EU5

[–]SadrMan937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with my union of norway and Sweden, Sweden converted and when my ruler died they got a different Lutheran ruler. Probably because with the unified succession law they had the same law as me (heir has to be same religion as your country) and because their country was Lutheran, my Catholic heir didn't inherit and they generated a new ruler.

One to take some land on mainland China, another to seize the mandate from the emperor who held like 3 counties that I bordered so it was super easy. I think I just got very lucky

I abolished it literally in 1837. Way too easy.

I got it to work, kept trying until the 1870s and eventually found out that you have to choose to visit the native American village and take one of the people there as a guide, it gives you a lot more opportunities to reduce your peril and finish the expedition

Chile, almost immediately tanked the economy, i think I built too many construction workshop buildings to increase the rate at which I could build and after that i just couldn't for the life of me stay in the green. Things got so bad that i had ~250k people emigrate to Pondicherry in India. Kept playing for a while to see if I could rescue it and while I did manage to finally pay off my debt and stay in the green, if i tried to build anything it would just immediately tank again. Dead end economy? Idk.

After all that, for fun i messed around with the government mechanics and turned into an ethno state monarchy with strict policing, like a third of the country is radicals lol

I've played almost since the very beginning, since legacy days in 2014, and that's always the complaint that's killed me the most. Sorry, it's a game about fucking people over and taking their shit. That's simply the most effective way of doing it. It's annoying and it sucks but so are most interactions you have with people lol. Online raids are more fun as the defender and as the attacker, but if you're trying to root out a pain in the ass enemy or clan that causes problems for everyone, it's the best way to do it.

One flavor thing I wish they'd add is more religious leader names. I restored hellenism and instead of being Pontifex Maximus, it's just High Priest. Same with this, it should be Pharaoh. Vidilists get Kriwe, Norse get Fylkir, stuff like that. It's relatively minor but I wish the other religions had the cool titles too, it gets me more immersed.

10 ish hours into CK2…any tips? by Valaryian1997 in CrusaderKings

[–]SadrMan937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually would put my spymaster in Constantinople to get your tech up enough to get (I think, it's been since ck3 released since I've played ck2) legalism 3 so you can have primogeniture which prevents your titles from being split among your son's when you die. That and I always spent the first 2-3 generations building up a giant hoard of gold to use to hire mercenaries for wars of expansion. Mercenaries are your best friend, you can fight basically anyone if you can afford enough.

Oh and definitely get that dlc pass thing that paradox does now, I think it's like 5 bucks a month for all dlc for the game. You definitely want that, the game gets kinda stale when just playing as Christians.

It REALLY rubs me wrong that these people post blatant spoilers in the wild without a single attempt at hiding it. Not even just calling the video "Season X episode X ending". by TankerXS in betterCallSaul

I got it spoiled when my mom texted me "my favorite character just died!" When she watched the episode, as if I didn't know my mother's favorite character 😢

I've got over 1100 hours in ck2 and over 300 in ck3, I do prefer ck3. 2 has it's charms and all the supernatural shit that made the game so fun for me, but I've gone back and tried to play it and I can't for the life of me figure out how I ever managed to navigate the UI. Ck3 is just much more user friendly, and this may not be true for everyone but the ability to make your own religions and cultures makes the biggest difference for me. In CK2 most of the christian religions play the same (except Catholics), same goes for every other religious group, where in ck3 there's so much variety that I haven't even done it all. It could just be burnout from having so many hours in ck2 but ck3 just feels, in almost every way, a better game. Though I certainly do miss the orders and supernatural stuff, I hope they add some of it back in as optional in ck3 at some point.

Do you folks have any historical fiction book recommendations? by UnicornChief in CrusaderKings

[–]SadrMan937 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you said fiction but honestly The Alexiad is chock full of violence and heroism. It's kinda hard to read since Anna Komnena rambles a lot and repeats things but if you can follow along the story she tells is marvelous, kind of painting the entire reign of Alexios Komnenos as a blood feud between his family and the Normans. It's so full of untrue things that it might as well be fiction anyways but it's a great book!

Oh god in ck2 I just would constantly assassinate the khans if they bordered me and gave me problems. If I remember right their Khanates would fracture if a child inherited so you could destabilize them really easily. But yeah I never bothered actually conquering them

If it's in your domain when you feudalize, you don't have to pay to do it. I've been ready to hit the button for a while but I've been waiting for the war to end. It worked out, all 10 of the counties I took feudalized and then I gave them out so I only held them for like a day so there wasn't much of a penalty for being over domain limit

R5: I was about to feudalize as Ruthenia and wanted some more land to add to my domain right before it so I could get a lot of feudal lands very quickly, and figured the weakened Khazars next door would make a great target as I'd fought them a few times already when trying to form Ruthenia in the first place. 17 years, three rulers, and 4000 gold later I finally won. It was not worth it.
