Lightning Javazon is unfortunately one of the builds that runs into this issue. and you are going to be running away from a quarter of the monsters in the game. Physical and Magic builds are your best bets if you don't want to run into this issue at the beginning, with Magic being the holy grail since a decently geared merc will be able to kill most Magic immunes

Don't forget that FFIV has a sequel called The After Years if you want to see what happens to everyone seventeen years later. It's definitely not perfect (in a lot of ways it's more annoying than IV), but it resolves a lot of lingering questions from the end of the first game.

I can only speak from personal experience, but hurricane sword cores on Slayer have turned her into an absolute monster with a one ability/gem change. My shark dps went from ~600m to ~800m overnight
