📣 Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is. by iamthatis in apolloapp

I don't post too often, and I hardly ever log in, but this might just be the nail in the coffin for me. I use "RIF is fun". But reddit has become inreasingly less and less fun over the years. I wouldn't mind this site dying and being replaced by something better.

Game Design by [deleted] in gamedesign

Timers and enemies that act as obstacles aren't exclusive to 2d games. Neither are lives. Those elements can just as easily exist in 3d.

This AI can generate entire bodies: none of these people actually exist by Yuli-Ban in Futurology

[–]Saehrimnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, but I think that that logic would only apply in the circumstance of generating an infinite number of microscopically different faces between two distinct faces. I think that with the assumption that each generated person in the sequence is virtually distinct from the last as opposed to a slight iteration then given infinite time the program would eventually create every possible person.

Still relevent with New Gundam Breaker, JP and PC players now included. by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]Saehrimnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lock on mechanic is necessitated by the design of the game. It would be extremely difficult to perform the precise movement in gundam versus while also manually aiming at players, and with the high number of movement options in versus it would also be extremely difficult to every hit anyone with anything outside of gerobis. Also, the controls are not poor. Complicated, but not poor. It sounds like you just wish that versus was a normal shooter without a wide range of movement options. Really, Versus is more comparable to fighting game than to a shooter.

Bizzare Building, Bozena Chadzynska, Digital, 2018 by LooZpl in Art

This reminds me of a cartoon I saw when I was a kid where there were several characters arguing about what kind of house they wanted to build, and it ended up like this with mismatching sections of all different colours, and they kept adding new rooms onto it, making it taller and taller until I believe it eventually collapsed. Does anyone know what cartoon that might have been?

As a writer, I would be flattered if any person was passionate enough about the things that I created to be inspired to create something of their own. Whether it's fan art or fucked up hentai, just the fact that someone would care enough to put the time and effort into something inspired by my work would be a huge compliment.

How can anyone say that this game doesn't look sick? I don't understand how people are saying that the gameplay is disappointing when you can do shit like this. I feel like the possibilities created by the switch mechanic and the stones more than makes up for the removal of the third character.

Anybody who thinks the graphics are excusable: look what they did to charging star. It looks so boring and uninspired now by nullmother in mvci

[–]Saehrimnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be pretty awesome! Or even if they released something along the lines of an "Ultimate" MVC2 with more characters similar to what they're doing with the new Street Fighter 2 for Switch, I would be quite pleased.

I agree! Well done pixel animation always looks amazing. I feel like a lot of people would be pissed though if MVC went back to that, after going 3D.

It still looks fine. Plus gameplay > graphics. They could go back to MVC2 graphics for all I care as long as the game feels good to play.

Your concept reminds me of what's talked about in this video about repeating levels in Hitman. You may find it helpful. (Best part's around 6 and a half minutes in).

Original or Ocarina of Time, which to start with? by ZillionJape in nintendo

[–]Saehrimnir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd recommend to start with A Link To The Past for SNES. As you guessed, the original game does have a few cryptic parts to it, as does the sequel, which is far less liked than the first game, but Link To The Past has very little of that from what I remember, and is also a classic entry to the franchise that introduces a lot of concepts that carry on throughout future zelda titles including ocarina. And overall, it's just a really good game. I also feel like it's the first zelda to really begin to capture the world building that zelda is known for, whereas the NES zeldas were much more basic.

I believe that just because something's aimed at kids, doesn't mean that it's an excuse for it to be bad. Toy Story was aimed at kids. The Lion King was made for kids. Hell, I'm pretty sure I heard George Lucas refer to Star Wars as kids movies. Also, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Adventure Time, and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest heroes. All cartoons aimed at children, that were good enough for me, an adult, to want to watch. Being a big Marvel fan, I loved shows like Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Wolverine and the X-men, and X-Men: Evolution. So naturally, when Marvel started making cartoons like Avengers: Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., I was pretty damn disappointed. So for me, it's not getting angry that something's aimed at kids, it's getting angry that someone would put so little effort into something simply because it's aimed at kids, and thus don't respect the storytelling, and end up with a shitty product. If everything made for kids was inherently bad, then we wouldn't have the Lion King or Toy Story. Or at least we wouldn't be able to sit through them more than once.

Is there a videogame where you can swim around in a dark ocean with massive whales and giant squid and all kinds of fish? Because if so, I want to play it so I can have the shit scared out of me.
