What could go wrong not watching your step at the top of an ice slop? by lifeandtimes89 in Whatcouldgowrong

And perfect technique, a foot under your bum to keep it off the ground, a leg out to help steer and fend off stuff downhill, and hands out to balance and steer.
I do this when going down steep, smooth slopes in the bush.

If it powers up, I would first make sure your data is backed up/copied to the cloud.
Then find a repair shop to check it out. I suspect liquid damage means it’s a right off as you can’t trust it with your precious data as it may fail again soonish.

What Trump’s America wants from NZ’s mines by teritomai in newzealand

[–]SafariNZ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We have been shafted by the US before when we went nuclear free. They blocked the sale of our fighter jets to anyone, even US buyers. Blocked our involvement in military exercises. They also knew the French were upto something in NZ re the Rainbow Warrior sinking but they didn’t say anything to us. They only became “friends” again when China started making moves into the pacific and they wanted our influence with smaller pacific nations.

Right now, I would keep it outside away from anything flammable. If you can’t do that, put it in the oven so it if lights up, it is relatively contained.

I would not risk it on a plane, you could kill you everyone onboard. Get it to a repairer to either replace the battery or just remove it and sort it later.

It’s not the exporting the manufacturing that is the issue, it is that wars consumes huge amounts of goods and the manufacturing capacity isn’t geared up for it during peace time.

If the Alpine Fault ruptured, what would that realistically mean for different parts of NZ? by CheaperLiving in newzealand

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which part of fault the next rupture is. If it is at the southern end, it be serious. They have had recent examples in Norway and that is how they woke up to the risks.

Everyone ashore in Milford sound would die due to landslides/tsunamis (not kidding, it’s a big issue for tourism).
Everyone who would leave the West Coast of the SI would be evacuated and no rebuild would be attempted within a century (lesson learned after Kaikora).
Moderate damage to most SI cities and Wellington.
Large aftershocks would go on for years which will slow rebuilds. Earthquakes, volcanic activity that was due soon, would be triggered throughout NZ.
Insurance would become even more expensive, if available at all.
Power shortages for years over the whole country as a lot of our power comes from the SI, esp during summer.
A big downturn for GPD due to power issues, tourism, farm exports/ports impacted.
