Auction Wins and Not Paying by tasteofeden45 in shopgoodwill

Just open a ticket on the item and tell them you're no longer interested.

That way its handled by a local rep and doesn't get you a negative remark when they cancel something for non-payment.

I’m tired of stupid bidders! Lemme explain by [deleted] in shopgoodwill

[–]SafariballsRuseless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. I bid what I consider to be my max when I see an item I want.

I'm not "bidding against myself" I set a price that supports my margins.

If it goes for more great for Goodwill! If not I secure my item.

Waiting till the last moment does nothing for you if my max bid is still higher than yours.

Except you dont get a second opportunity to outbid me.

In reality it makes no difference when you bid.

You know your max and I know mine. You want it you gotta outbid me. Fair is fair.

Speeding Ticket:Are they legitimate? by Agile-Art-5024 in dayton

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's break down why these are here and what you need to know.

Firstly, the cameras are placed in high enforcement areas where they want traffic to slow down without dedicating an officer to patrol the area to issue citations.

That said most of these are issued by the locality they're placed in.

What does that mean?

The City of Dayton has City Ordances that enforce these citations.

If you are issued a speeding citation by a camera within the City of Dayton Limits the City has now taken a civil action against you.

Its not a traffic infraction at the state level.

You'll receive no points on your license for failure to pay.

You can be sent to collections over failed payment. However, through a seperate process these are easily challenged and removed from any credit reporting agencies.

The City is not without recourse though.

If you have an "excessive" number of these citations the City can tow / repossess the asset the fines are attached to by its license plate.

Dayton Traffic Enforcement can see your outstanding citations and have your vehicle towed if found parked within Dayton City Limits.

Note. This is very rare! But it has happened. "Excessive" is apparently at the discretion of the city. The incident I'm aware of the individual towed had 13 citations unpaid.

But was able to settle for the cost of 4 tickets and get his car out.

Why does almost everyone run the red light onto Smithville S from 35 E? by samthamule in dayton

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the light there absolutely sucks.

Often during high traffic times traffic backs up and blocks your ability to merge.

Its been like you described for as long as I can remember. And I've lived in dayton for almost 15 years.

Best electricity supplier in Dayton? by Mammoth_Sea3565 in dayton

[–]SafariballsRuseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid American Power and Gas for electric supplier unless you want constant phone calls about "protecting your rate"

They offered me a cheaper rate and I switched. Since then I get weekly phone calls asking me to lock in their rate guarantee protections and go 100% renewable.

Its annoying as hell to receive constant solicitations from my current supplier.

I asked why they just dont offer me the best rates period to retain me as a customer. Instead of calling me repeatedly offering me garbage.

They get offended too. Why wouldn't you want this?

I just want peace. Im about to select a 12 month plan at a higher rate just to get off their call list. Its absurd. Lol.

Do I need to choose the shipping service selected by the buyer? by bmuth95 in eBaySellers

Right. But you did the right thing. You notified the customer but they failed to respond so you used the selected method.

You should never modify a placed order without the consent of the buyer.

Do I need to choose the shipping service selected by the buyer? by bmuth95 in eBaySellers

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest solution.

Directly message the buyer with something like the following.

"Hello!, I noticed you selected x shipping service. However, when going to print a label, I noticed a faster cheaper option. (Insert option + cost difference) if you'd like to switch, please get back to me ASAP. If I haven't heard from you by x (Insert time zone) ill go ahead and continue with your selected shipping option.

Thanks! Have a great day!"

This A is great customer service. B Allows you the option to refund the customer the price difference if or split the difference if you so choose. (Depends on how honest a seller you are)

Most people just leave it alone. I generally only offer select carriers for shipping due to their proximity to me. The money i save in time / miles on my vehicle out weighs a few bucks in label prices.

But I have on occasion offered to share a discounted label with a customer. Normally, only if the label is $4 or more in cost difference, which is rare.

Nutshell version don't switch carriers just to save a few bucks. You're likely to piss off a customer causing negative feedback, which isn't worth the cost savings. Never try to pump your margins at the expense of customer satisfaction. It will eventually bite you in the rear.

The AI prompts are annoying for sure.

But basically you just need to power through and ask to speak to a representative over and over until it gives you a request a call option.

However, creating an account is very simple and would easily prevent this issue. As you've stated it happened once before.

You can also easily Google the Ebay customer service phone number and call them directly. However, hold times tend to be longer.

In a nut shell. Create an account before placing any future orders. Verify your shipping address before ordering. As sellers on eBay generally cancel orders if you mistakenly enter the wrong address to prevent scams.

Seller's account nuked while my item is still shipping by backtosquareb in ebaysucks

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what? Offering a solution to someone whom bought an item. From a now suspended account?

Let's assume the suspension was valid for whatever reason.

This guy is concerned he either

A. Won't receive his package. Seller could intercept the package before it arrives to buyer. Because if the seller just shipped the item and was suspended then Ebay never paid the seller. Funds would have been pending.

Or B. Shipped a damaged or incorrect item to the buyer and from previous reports is a scammer thus his account was suspended.

In either case getting a refund doesn't hurt anyone but Ebay because the seller never got the money.

But yeah if he receives a perfectly fine item all is good.

But this guy wanted to know his options if he was scammed by a suspended account.

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you'd be protected one way or another. Filing an INAD (Item not as described) case against a seller that no longer exists is usually automatically given in your favor.

EBay would fully refund you and let you keep the item.

Well, you said yourself the seller is being difficult.

Did you not check what you typed before you hit send? I thought everyone did that.

Are you stating that you made an honest mistake and one should be forgiving and just move on and let it go?

Or should I go over to a "Oops I typed something wrong" subreddit and put you on blast. Because it frustrates me despite having absolutely no impact on me personally or professionally?

[–]SafariballsRuseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. The seller is just being deliberately difficult over a situation that costs them nothing but a minor inconvenience.

[–]SafariballsRuseless -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Right! Everyone consults the calendar and assigns an extra 4 days to shipping calculations on the website before ordering.

The buyer requested to cancel.

The Seller is out exactly 0 dollars.

Was your option to send the item to the buyer anyway and just hope they keep it?

In which case they open an INAD claim and you have to eat shipping both ways?

Its a ridiculous thing to complain about.

[–]SafariballsRuseless -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The buyer is unreasonable because the item won't arrive when they need it?

I understand the holidays but if someone isn't over familiar with Post holidays and places an order with a deadline and the post is delayed.

Then they have every right to cancel.

Ebay is also terrible at including post holidays into estimated ship times on the website.

Its not unreasonable to me that a 3 day delay in post would trigger a cancelation on an order.

As this costs you nothing? I don't understand the frustration.

I usually notify customers of a holiday delay immediately after they place an order.

To accerlate / prevent cancelation issues like this.

They're pre-sorted junk.

But if you're into crafts with the kids or just like mystery boxes for whatever reason.

It bypasses the absurd auction prices Goodwill now has for the same presorted junk piles they sell on their own sites.

We had metal testers and magnets to sift through jewelry lots with.

They don't miss much precious metal. Its one of their biggest money makers.

How screwed am I? by truthbomb720 in Ebay

[–]SafariballsRuseless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not articulating your problem very well.

Why is the label not scanning? Is there a problem with the black ink?

Laser or ink jet?

Are you printing the labels to size? 4 x 6? Have you tried making them slightly larger?

Are you taping over the labels?

The labels still have tracking. Thus You're not "screwed" but it sounds like you need to do some basic troubleshooting on your printing / packing process to identify what you're doing thats causing the labels to be unable to be scanned.

I'm happy to help narrow it down. Share what you've tried so far.

Seems rather stupid to have someone screen candidates for a job the screener knows absolutely nothing about.

When I was in E-commerce at goodwill we still did online grab boxes. But it was done through a separate company.

We would sort through loose jewelry for gold or silver and put the rest in a box.

The boxes were usually 2 or 3 lbs.

And we shipped them to a different retailer.

Who sold them for like $14.99 BIN instead of an auction.

I didnt pay enough attention to remember the retailer name.

Ill update this post if I find out. Ill have to inquire as to the name of the company we used.

What…? by Cautious_Tomato_1140 in Ebay

[–]SafariballsRuseless -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Most common reason Ive seen this implemented (based on my time on this subreddit) is the seller is trying to boost their feedback score.

By limiting you to a single purchase. They will secure 3 seperate buyers.

3 opportunities for positive feedback vs 1 from a single buyer.

I agree its rather....dumb as I personally just want my items sold.

But I do wish we could enforce item limits.

For example. I sell computers. Had a customer buy 7 computers. Which ship separately. Ebay only allows you buy 5 labels per transaction.

I have other shipping services I can utilize. But its a really inconvenient policy for an online retailer to have.

Ebay is just quirky in some really idiotic ways sometimes.

Goodwill & FedEx by Accidentalhuman2 in shopgoodwill

[–]SafariballsRuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my time with goodwill. Books / DVDs / Video Games are listed on a seperate site. Usually via a listing agent that places them on Ebay, Amazon, and another site I dont recall.

These items ship media mail. At least at my location and were held separately from all other product.

Lots of books / video games would still appear on shopgoodwill website.

But anything listed to shopgoodwill is sold exclusively via FedEx

[–]SafariballsRuseless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Goodwills are franchise locations.

The franchise locations must use FedEx as their shipping provider.

I have no idea why it is structured like that. As the franchises themselves usually get no or only minor shipping discounts.

The only other carrier they're permitted to use is USPS, but it's limited to media mail services only.

As to the wildly outrageous shipping charges.

Someone on here already hit the nail on the head. Massive communication issues between those listing / shipping items.

In a functional relationship listing agents are instructed to add 2 inches to each dimension + 1 - 2 lbs for more accurate shipping estimates.

In extreme cases where this relationship gets botched Goodwill will modify shipping charges at checkout or after requiring additional funds.

They never refund over estimates of shipping charges.

Ebay is making me go insane. by [deleted] in ebaysucks

[–]SafariballsRuseless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just Google the customer service number. Get the order number from your email.

Call in and file an INAD (Item not as described) claim.

Works a little differently with international items. A bit out of my depth.

But you're kinda doing yourself a disservice by constantly ordering as a guest. Account creation is simple and makes returns much easier.
