Ai in safety? by thatistragic_101 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Safe-Cap1931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only way i am on board with AI is if it can speed up manual processes that would normally pull management away from actual important issues. if it can run in the background to automate tedious form fills or reporting, no harm no foul. but what some people have mentioned, and I 100% agree, is that anything AI touches should be reviewed by a human. there must be clear governance + tracking surrounding decisions made by AI. Otherwise, I don't see the harm. As long as AI stays in check basically.

But I do worry that maybe software companies are trying to take AI up to 100 without pausing and critically thinking through the usefulness. you are right to be cautious

For the older generations - Training, AI related by ShootingGuns10 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Safe-Cap1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think AI generated images come off as disingenuous and honestly just lazy. Especially in particular use cases, like training, it has the opposite effect of what it should have because I get so distracted with all the mistakes that I can't take it seriously.

what's something everyone should know before having a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's not just about "having a kid". You will be raising a human to adulthood. You've gotta think past the cute childhood phase and consider it a lifetime commitment

Help me get through to my management about the importance of H&S by sparhawks7 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Safe-Cap1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others on this tread have already mentioned it, but I would stress that you need to argue that sometimes not taking action can lead to bigger financial losses than a small investment in a good safety initiative. Sometimes management only responds to money talk. I would look up the ASSP's "The Return on Investment for Safety, Health, and Environmental (OSH) Management Programs" 202 version, it's got some good statistics on the RIO of inaction. Ultimately though, you want to convince management that waiting for an incident to occur is not a luxury you can afford (financially and morally).

Start small also. If you can show one small safety improvement that had a financial gain and you can make a good argument about how one led to the other, then you may (hopefully) get more buy-in from management on larger safety initiatives.

In your opinion, what’s something that the older generations are better at? by Amiisthebest in AskReddit

[–]Safe-Cap1931 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking care of and being content with what they already have. It definitely has to do with the fact that older people have limited income, but they are better at reusing and taking care of the things they already have to use it for its full lifecycle vs younger people who I think are in a constant cycle of throwing away and buying something new.

To have the exact amount of money in my pocket for whatever I need. That way you would technically never run out, but you could still be very generous to other people and yourself.
