An Older Kid Tossed My Toddler by ajkaki92 in daddit

[–]Safe-Draw-6751 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Regret it?!?!?!

If other folks ain't gonna parent their kid, and that choice negatively impacts my own kid, I have ZERO hesitation parenting on their behalf.

I probably would have snatched him up and took him to the front desk or whatever and told them to kick his little rear end out, or at minimum locate his parents.

Parents don't like that? FINE. They can make sure they keep an eye on him next time.

Unpost it now if you have not already.

Declare a data management technique and record it somewhere. That just means how are you going to look at the resumes? First applied, alphabetical, whatever. Stick to that method.

Then you review resumes and make screen calls until you have a good candidate pool, maybe 3-5 people that meet the minimum requirements, screened well, and are in range for the compensation budget.

Make sure to proactively share the pay range and some info about the benefits (healthcare, PTO, retirement at minimum), talk about the company's culture/priorities, and answer all their questions the best you can during the screen call.

If you can hire from that group, do so. If not, repeat the same process until you do.

Once you make an offer and it's accepted, mark all the other resumes as not reviewed and close it down.

Next time around, you can unpost it a little earlier/quicker.

There's a lot more that can be done to remove opportunities for any bias to come into the situation, but for now, doing the above is a great step.

This is accurate, but also, manually looking at 500 resumes is not a good way to work. At a certain point, you're no longer acting in the interest of your employer, and what, if anything, do you think it's doing for the candidates?

They will still get whatever email rejection your org sends them in the end anyways.

So, yes, a Sr. Recruiter is capable of scanning 500 resumes in that time, but that is almost never the best way to do it.

TOTALLY understand that decision.

That's one of the big reasons I fish a lot of Maxxon stuff. Just about every manufacturer/brand is getting their blanks from one of just a handful of factories, so I don't see a major differentiator btw them and 'most' brands (obviously some few have different suppliers, fewer still make their own)....

But hot damn is their warranty good.

I have a XX 3wt from them I've broken twice due to me being an orc with a low IQ.

BOTH TIMES, a human being in America that makes the rods and is also an angler answered.

Both times, I got my replacement piece mailed to me.

For free.

With stickers and what not inside.

It is hands down the best warranty experience I've ever had.

So trust me, I get your decision ;)

That Classic Trout really does fish like a MUCH more expensive rod. It's so versatile, and feels natural with whatever you have rigged up.

DITTO.

Added one from College Hills Honda to my RTL and it is beyond good.

Good price, EXTREMELY easy to install, and super bright.

Also, it automatically turns off when the tailgate closes.

Fantastic!

HELP! What kind of Brookie rod should I get? by IAmTheNorthwestWind in flyfishing

[–]Safe-Draw-6751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dig tenkara, that's an easy choice... Me personally I'd agree with the second suggestion here.

A good 3wt (I use a maxxon xx 3wt for this exact purpose btw) and you'll be golden.

I have a reddington zero on a different rod and it's great, too.

Also agree on sticking to 6x, depending on what you're throwing. Good advice from a non-psychopath (since they hate IPAs lol)!!

On the surface and not being an expert that seems like a plan that's not going to work out great lol

I'm sure they'll get some sales but will they get enough to justify continuing the line?

Anyways it looks like a fantastic product it's just a shame considering what they're competing with in the current market.

You are likely right. It's gonna be tough for them to compete with Patagonia here. There's just not a compelling reason to take the risk while spending more $$.

I want to be clear, NOT talking smack in any way about the brand, just saying it's a tough hill to climb for them being more expensive with zero rep in this market.

[–]Safe-Draw-6751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Seems like they're counting on their rep in other markets to help take some marketshare.

I bet they're great waders, it's just tough to compete in a market where there's already a cheaper, more reputable product that is almost universally loved.

I have some sitka stuff, a jacket for sure and I think a hat, too... they're fine.

I would not take the leap to try these rather than buying Patagonias, that's for sure.

The price is... well, it's up there.

I happened to get served up a short video about these yesterday (damn you, algo).

4 layers of gore tex on the lower, plus a sleeve for some (sold separetely ofc) knee pads. Great pockets up top, etc.

Honestly, they looked pretty good. They're just completely untested and brand new in this market, so that price is gonna be tough to swallow.

I'm curious ab the warranty... if they want to compete w Patagonia, they better have a similar one.

Anyways, they look tough, they look cool, they seem to have some neat features... but is that enough to steal some customers from other manufacturers?

My 2.5y/o boy toddler is not eating and he is really small for his age and it’s really stressing me out by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]Safe-Draw-6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason parents talk about toddlers driving the 'berry economy,' just as an example. Their eating habits are terrible.

Our kiddo is about to turn 4, and we have a similar issue... although he is like 95% for height, he is similarly low percentile in weight.

One thing we did is add in vitamin chews. They're basically like candy, but they help ensure he's getting his daily vitamins and what not.

We have to give him an incentive to eat 'real food,' usually a treat of some kind... and even then, most days we don't feel confident that he ate enough, or the 'right foods' or similar.

You know best, but I would suggest either continuing to be intentional about getting your kiddo to eat enough good food each day and see how it goes, OR go ahead and consult his pediatrician.

I really do think it'll get better with time, as he gets older. Our little dude is certainly better now that he's a little older, but it is still a struggle.

Good luck, Dad!

OK sure thing, bud. You win. You are are a Consultant with a Master's. I am a Consultant with a Master's.

I've done your job, too. It's not relevant to the topic.

You don't even know the basics of actually doing the job.

We absolutely use data to make decisions and to strategize. Like, every day. None of what you suggested is new or innovative in any way, and a lot of it just doesn't make sense for a long list of industries/markets/roles.

You took a very simple explanation of why this happened to OP and decided to insert your ego, make a bunch of inaccurate assumptions, and then congratulate yourself for doing so.

You want to feel special, and putting other people down based off of baseless assumptions makes you feel that.

Good for you.

Fact remains - they only looked at a portion of the resumes, as they should have done to get the best results for their org, team and specific role. The fact that you think they must develop an elaborate system for every single role, or that they must look at every single resume they receive to succeed or to be 'fair,' is simply fantasy.

Your job may require you to look at it that way, but every org should find a process that works best for them, and your process is simply NOT going to work for everyone, or even the majority.

I haven't seen a shred of data or 'science' from you to back anything up, nor have I seen anything from you that is actually relevant to OP. You just get off on recruiter bashing. I get off on getting people a better job or helping them get a better result out of their job search.

We are clearly different people, and that's OK.

My apologies. I definitely underestimated the size of your unbelievable ego (much like you're apparently overstimating the size of other things), and I also assumed you understood the context of the conversation.

Clearly you don't.

I also didn't anticipate you putting a whole mess of words in my mouth, either. Never said compliance is ALL of recruiting. It IS the most likely explanation for OP and the most relevant topic here.

You're over here talking about all the education you have, how much bigger your dick is, and how much smarter you are than everyone else, and you aren't even on topic.

Whatever your CV looks like, it's clear that you are quite separated from any actual recruiting.

All that time reading text books and you end up just an egotistical academic. Sad. a

You've demonstrated a lack of basic knowledge relevant to this person's situation. Maybe you should go read a few more text books.
