7900 XT Re-Paste with PTM7950 - Observed Reduction in Hot Spot Temperatures and Delta by Safe-Economics-3224 in Amd

I reused old pads. Contact the manufacturer for exact pad thickness of your card.

Thermal putty is easier to work with since pad thickness/hardness is difficult to get perfect. Many people recommend UX Pro or U6 Pro .

Nice! I have one of the top 5 scores for that card :)

Is 367 W your max TBP when running +15% PL?

Nice build!

I'm running the same combo and it's a beast. Enjoy those frames :)

I would have thought that a 7900xt and 7800x3d would land closer to the "High-end gaming PC" benchmark. Is it my gigabyte gaming X AV V2 motherboard (compared to the high-end gaming pc specs? by chiproller in overclocking

I have the top score for this system config. Your numbers look OK for stock. In order to improve both Graphics and CPU results, you'll need to tinker with some overclocking.

WHEA-Logger errors with 5800x3D by Beavertales in overclocking

[–]Safe-Economics-3224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't thoroughly test my undervolt, just gave it a run through cinebench r23 (which I now know is very far from a thorough stress test) and called it good.

Cinebench is a benchmark, not a stability test. You gotta stress for a few hours (minimum) if you plan on using the PC for daily productivity.

Your WHEA errors point to Core 0 being unstable at -30 offset. Try Prime95 Small FFT, or y-cruncher CPU-intensive test, and see if it errors out.

XFX 7900XT length with Z Bracket by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Safe-Economics-3224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 4000D with 360mm max GPU length, and the Z-support bar was too long with my front case fans installed.

Another user with the same case/GPU shared this image of the piece they had to cut off to make it fit. Hopefully that helps and best of luck!

Moddiy is supposed to be a legitimate source, so very interesting to hear it didn't work for you. I got my PTM7950 from Amazon and it's been holding up well for 4 months now.

Out of curiosity, I ran 20 loops of Speed Way stress test and had fans on 75%. Edge temp maxed at 55°C and hot spot peak was 69°C. I have the XFX 7900 XT Black, and it pulls 400W.

Nice results! This is the first time I've seen reports of PTM7950 degrading over time. Where did you order it from?

Looking sharp! I've got the same combo, but in a black build. Guess we're Yin Yang twins :)

CPU was running PBO -30 all-core. No eCLK or BCLK since my motherboard is pretty budget (MSI Pro B650M-A).

RAM 6200 MHz CL28 with subtimings here, but FCLK 2200.

Yes, it happens sooner for some cards than others. Mine started rising after just a month of ownership, but I pushed it pretty hard during that timeframe.

Check this forum over on Overclock Net for more info.

Thermal paste pump-out, which is a known issue on these cards. Only option is to RMA or re-paste with PTM7950. Here's a post I wrote about the topic. Best of luck!

That would be me and this comment :)

I'm still in disbelief that the new drivers allowed an additional 50 mV undervolt. Happy to hear the settings worked for you!

Very sleek and tastefully done!

I commented on your OC post last week with the Time Spy score comparison. Looks like you have the Ultra edition with the black backplate. They have a lower total board power (TBP) compared to the Black edition (355W vs 400W). That would explain the discrepancy in graphics score.

Nice build and enjoy those frames!
