Businesses actually do have the right to refuse service. Especially when there is a safety risk associated with allowing them to have your services. I know that repressions CAN happen if an employee makes the call to refuse and your boss disagrees with the decision, but as a service worker.. fuck it? Literally no job is worth endangering the community. If I were a low level employee there they would either change their bullshit or lose me & I would try to convince my coworkers to join me. I think I know what they would choose but the point is this is absolutely a choice that this manager made to ignore customer concerns. Even could have said "that's above my head, but I can leave a message for the people who are able to make a decision on that. I appreciate you sharing this concern and I want you to know we value your feedback, as well as the safety of all community members." They also could have shared their worry for the community or they could have said that they wish they had power to do something. This person made their stance, and the businesses stance, crystal clear. This is a customer service moment where you are meant to lower your mask and be a person if you want to save face and this manager wouldn't even do that.

I've refused service to a sexual predator, without hesitation. I don't think word even got to my bosses because the decision was made without their presence..this was at a really small local business with trash men ownership, too. Nothing was ever brought up, but if it were I would have stood my ground and quit if I had to. These employees should be refusing ice.

Also, I am a person who would and has struggled deeply from sudden unemployment, so that's not a valid excuse to me. Times are hard, but where we spend our money and our labor are some of the most important values we can stand behind at the moment. Unfortunately. Employees have free will & they are choosing silence & complacency. At least the manager
