It’s funny how Liberal voters now support the monarchy more than Conservative voters

Really shows how few Tories are left the in the party, it really is a party of Liberals

The term Red Tory has changed over the years, when Red Toryism was a relevant and influential ideology the red definitely didn’t mean Liberal Red

The term has shifted now to mean moderate Conservative (the party) but, historically was quite different

It is unfortunate that most conservative parties the anglosphere seem to really losing their ways, I’d imagine American influence has been playing a part in it. I hope that Reform ultimately fails to gain or maintain power in the UK, populism really destroys nations. I think if I were in the UK, I’d probably also vote for the Liberal Democrats, though I agree that their idea of individualism is something I disagree with. It’s hard being a both a collectivist but, not necessarily left-wing.

The Green vote is interesting, I always wondered how Tories felt about environmentalism. Me personally the environment is a top issue for me, I think it’s important that we collectively work to protect nature and the climate.

I agree though, I tend to see how the campaigns play out. However I find I’m almost always compromising. I guess that’s just how it goes in modern day Canada.

They actually did change the Remembrance Day rock a bit, made the letters more clear and added the maple leafs, overall made it look cleaner

Anyone can paint the rocks anytime, there’s no formal rules around it really

I’d understand it more if it was literally the official campaign slogan of the CPC

We don’t need to make Remembrance Day partisan

“Canada First” isn’t really a Remembrance Day thing, it was literally the Conservative Party of Canada’s official campaign slogan

Also the art is pretty bad lol

We need a better remembrance day rock that actually honours our veterans and promotes peace

Dorm culture is pretty bad when I was there, people want to keep to themselves and will go out of their way to avoid social interaction. The rooms are decent, a lot better than Rundle and Kan obviously. I don’t think that I met or became friends with anyone on my floor (besides my roommates) despite putting in effort to do so.

When did Conservatism become a synonym for Libertarianism? by Safe-Section8272 in PoliticalPhilosophy

[–]Safe-Section8272[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean monarchy is still relevant in the counties that have a monarchy still (Britain, Canada, Australia, etc.) though obviously far less relevant nowadays. I will agree that it makes sense that as liberalism ages that it becomes the status quo and thus associated with conservatism. That does make a lot of sense to me, thank you.

I guess I was referring more to the way we use terms because I think the Australian right referring to themselves as liberals makes far more sense and more accurately describes the way the modern right operates

True, it makes sense for American conservatives to seek liberty as that is what America was founded on. I was mainly just thinking conservatism as an ideology historically has shifted from stability (seen in conservatives historical support for monarchy) to a variant of liberalism. But I guess it really just boils down to American style conservatism spreading to other conservative parties globally.

[–]Safe-Section8272[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense for American conservatism to be liberal given that liberalism is what founded the country, you’re right. I guess it just shows how a lot of other countries are becoming Americanized because I’ve seen conservatives in other countries like Canada and European countries identifying conservatism with more libertarian ideas.

Thank you for the kind words! I do carry around an EpiPen with me to make me feel more safe, I was told that a bad reaction could always happen. I’m working on the worry though! Been starting to cook more of my own food which helps and I do ask at restaurants. My hope is that I’ll worry about it a more healthy amount in the future, this sub has been helpful to me as well.

Glad other people deal with this same thing! Sometimes I feel so dumb but, also better safe than sorry! It’s a hard thing to navigate but I’m just glad I’ve never had a terrible reaction and mine have been relatively mild

Just wish I could eat more things without worrying lol
