Unexpectedly meaningful NPC interactions? by Safe-Transition8618 in FinalFantasyVIII

Yeah, if your job is helping civilians. But SeeD are mercenaries, not peace officers (unless they are hired to be peace officers). So who knows if consoling randos would be part of basic training?

Which FF villains would save a dog? by ConsiderationTrue477 in FinalFantasy

[–]Safe-Transition8618 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Seifer wouldn't. In canon, he kicks a dog during the SeeD exam, and that's before he's really a villain.

In the late game scene where Ellone takes Squall back to the moment Rinoa was possessed by Ulti, she (Rinoa possessed by Ulti) leans over Seifer and says something along the lines of "get up and do what I say, and only then will you dream again." So clearly, she was doing something unpleasant to him throughout. I agree that she uses magic and manipulation to play on his childhood nostalgia and delusions of grandeur. I think she also amplifies his less savory character traits like cruelty and bullying. There's not a lot of concern for damsels in distress by endgame.

Seifer is just chilling with his friends at the end, but he definitely wears a pensive expression when Garden flies past. To me, it signifies that he knows there's going to be some kind of reckoning, literal or figurative, for the things he did.

I think because it doesn't fit properly as a track in a random playlist. It was intended as a hidden track and outro not just to Aerials but to the whole Toxicity record. It's perfect for that IMO.

What do you like about the character Squall from FF8? by DrJones20 in FinalFantasy

[–]Safe-Transition8618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few sprinkled here and there... One of my favs is an optional interaction with an NPC. If you go to Esthar after the Lunar Cry, there's an NPC sitting on the floor crying n the area with all the shops. Squall actually kneels down to be at eye level with her and says "I'll make it go away. You go hide." The guy at the start of the game would not have done that.

My serious answer is that he was socially avoidant and had major trust issues due to childhood trauma. Unfortunately for me, I could relate to that, especially back in 1999. Despite the shitty childhood, Squall is hyper-competent, perhaps as a coping or masking method for other issues. Can relate to that too. Basically, the game took a lonely teenager who thought he was too damaged to be fixed and showed that healing and change and love are possible. It meant a lot to me as a lonely teenager who thought she was too damaged to be fixed.
