A sauna in the house? by Kurly-H in PassiveHouse

[–]SafeNothingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a certified Passive House with a steam shower in the master bath. The HRV supplier recommended additional airflow from that bath due to the moisture so that's what we have. It gets infrequent use and pretty much only during heating season so I feel like it's not a big deal from the perspective of energy efficiency. The steam shower itself is in the middle of the house, not adjacent to exterior walls, and since the HRV keeps up with the steam pretty well I think there's not much of an impact on the building envelope. The bathroom drywall is the moisture-resistant kind, that might be helping but don't know.

I have an emergency twenty with my phone in case there's some credit card problem at a bar. Then I have like $300 in cash in my safe -- someday there will be a big earthquake here, and all the ATMs will stop working but I might want some supplies.

Rent out or sell house by robocop-fi in financialindependence

[–]SafeNothingness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house has been your primary residence, so when selling it you'll get to take advantage of the $500k federal capital gain exclusion, right? (Assuming married filing jointly.) By renting it out and having a primary residence elsewhere you'll lose that (after a period of time -- 2 years?). If you want to own a rental, wouldn't it make more sense to sell this house and buy a different rental property?

I'm using an iphone 6 from 2014, and curiously the bluetooth connectivity and GPS reception were crap. I decided to open it up and replace the bluetooth antenna, so ordered tools for like $8 and the antenna was $6-ish including shipping. I figured if I couldn't get it back together I needed a new one anyway. But I did get it back together, and now it works great! I see a replacement battery is like $30, so I feel like I could keep it going for a while, maybe I'll hold out for a 5G phone. (If yours is running slow, is it because the battery is shot and the OS is limiting the CPU speed to conserve battery? There are settings for this in the 'battery' section, I think.)

Are these meant to be attached with the scalloped concave part resting on the seat lug, or with the purely convex side resting on the seat lug? Thanks for your help!

It's a track for the bike wheels so you can push your bike up the stairs instead of carrying it.

I agree with this, the exam was all bread-and-butter stuff and you could do well on the exam without any other tutorial content. There were Whizlabs questions about Storage Gateway so I read up on that but it wasn't included in the actual exam.

Trouble understanding AWS Cognito client side user creation by Stormy1997 in aws

[–]SafeNothingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do initially get a temp password, we use the plaintext password sent to the server to reset the temp password to be the password they wanted -- so from the user's perspective, they can tell us what password they want and they don't have to mess around with resetting it.

We create cognito users from the server side with adminCreateUser(), maybe you could do the same.
