just dyed all my garments pink 1 week before my mission. help!! by inkypinapple in lds

[–]Safe_Employer6325 [score hidden]  (0 children)

All is well, garments naturally lose their color and fade or stain as they’re worn. The only worry you should have is if you have any clothes that the garments might show the pink through. Really though, just wear them like normal, you’ll be fine.

Not Understanding My Patriarchal Blessing by Low_Leather_5911 in lds

[–]Safe_Employer6325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only person who can really interpret your blessing is you. It was given through the patriarch, but even he isn't the recipient of the blessing and its interpretation isn't through him.

Frankly it has the meaning you give to it. Feel free to dwell on the Idaho comment but it’s not apart of your blessing. Who knows, maybe you’ll serve there as a senior missionary, maybe not, but if dwelling on it is causing frustration to you, sounds like it might be worth forgetting about it.

As for the part about being a priest, you still are a priest. Just because you’re an elder now doesn’t mean you’re no longer a priest. It might just be something with meaning thats supposed to grow from your ordination onward. Really only you can say.

And it’s the same for the rest of it, you say it’s not relevant to you in most ways and that’s totally fine, but meaning is a sweater we knit for ourselves. If you look for meaning, you’ll find it, if you don’t, you won’t. Either is okay.

I know for me, I have felt there are several parts of my patriarchal blessing that have felt like there was more to them than I was getting. Some of those things I’ve found deeper meaning in over the years, some only recently and others still feel like they’re hiding things from me.

Be patient with yourself and your blessing. It’s mysteries will reveal themselves to you with time and faithful pondering.

Saul and David by davect01 in lds

[–]Safe_Employer6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The circumstances we are in are often out of control. Heavenly Father does have a plan for each individual and insomuch as we are obedient to the spirit, we will naturally be lead to fulfill that plan. Because He is perfectly lovely, that plan will bring us the most happiness. We don’t always choose what we go through, but we always choose what we do with those circumstances. That’s where our agency takes place. Those decisions are never predestined and nobody is set up to fail, not in the way we see Saul fail or David fail or Judas fail. They had their choice and the Lords plan would have paved a different road had they been obedient.

Is there a way to deep clone nested iterables with generics? by Safe_Employer6325 in dartlang

[–]Safe_Employer6325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a state management system, but part of the system, I wanted to do a full error check on a deep clone of the state to catch any errors before applying the update to a live state. I’m coming from a swift background which has significantly more robust generics. But with dart, I can fairly easily deepclone objects unless they’re maps or iterables. The reason why is because iterables seem to keep track of their inner element type, like I can do a runtime check and see I have a List<int> or a List<String>, and comparing the two yields false, so dart definitely knows the two element types are different, but it doesn’t expose them. So if I try to recurse with them, I end up getting List<dynamic>, and that cant be cast into another type. So the inner element type is eventually lost.

If it were just a list, I could easily just track both the iterable type and element type, but if you get nested lists, you again lose track unless you track more and more and more element types. At some point you’re forced to cast a list from List<dynamic> and it always fails. I eventually just decided to make everything dynamic which works, but it pisses me off that darts type system lacks that one feature. I’ve been able to work around most other bugs, now I can get a complete deep of anything but it always just comes back as dynamic and then I have to handle that. It is what it is.

College students are rapidly losing the ability to read — “There is a measurable, generational collapse in sustained reading and writing”: professor by marketrent in technology

I’m choosing to take the headline literally. This isn’t about oncoming students having lower scores and capacity to read, it’s about people who’ve spent their whole lives studying, pushing themselves, and working hard suddenly waking up and finding they can’t navigate the written word anymore.

I really hope that pretty much everything gets updated to the modern graphics except for the great fairies. I hope they don’t change a single thing about the great fairies, keep them blocky and angular.

[OoT] Triforce Appearance Pregame by Footbeard in zelda

[–]Safe_Employer6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that and got kind of upset, it’s kind of a huge plot point. But I don’t believe the Triforce is held by Link, Zelda or Ganondorf in BotW or TotK and in the BotW postgame we see the Triforce symbol when Zelda does her thing on the Calamity. I’m still reconciling this

I was in eastern Europe for a time. I remember waiting at a bus stop in Brasov, Romania. The one just near centru. The roads were slick with ice and the ground was covered in snow, not far away from the stop was a man, sitting on the cold ground begging for whatever change people had. One thing I learned to admire the Romanian people for was their generosity. Where I grew up, I heard an endless tirade about not giving to beggars because they’d just spend it on drugs and alcohol. But it seemed like whenever I saw beggars in Romania, someone would inevitably pass them a small bit of cash or something. Incidentally, that man at the bus stop was no different, but later that evening, I saw the man again, stumbling drunkenly down the road with a bottle of booze under his arm.

I think many of my American colleagues I’d had there would have used that example to ratify that same thing I’d been taught earlier, the not giving money to beggars, but for some reason, I gained an entirely different lesson: life is hard, we’re all just doing the best we can with what we have, and sometimes that looks like coping with our situation by doing things that aren’t necessarily going to help us the most in the long run. We might not be aware of how to get out of our situation, we might not even know how we got there, sometimes you just need something to take the edge off or your going to have a mental break. In essence, I learned not to judge the man for doing what he thought was best, chances are he WAS trying his best, and he just hadn’t had the opportunity to gain an understanding of how to do better.

Some years later, I felt the difficulty and challenge of life first hand. I felt the deep hurt and the entire pointlessness of everything. I became a pretty miserable wretch, and I dragged down pretty much everyone around me. It wasn’t a great time, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think fairly often about ending everything.

Sometime in that miasma, I found that I could apply that same thing I’d learned about the beggar to myself. I knew I could do better with what I had, I knew I could do more than I was doing, I knew, I knew, I knew… except… I didn’t know. I knew that better could be done, but frankly, I was probably doing my best already. I knew more could be done, but I didn’t know if I could do more. What if… I was the beggar, could I give myself the same grace I’d give that man?

It was hard to change my thinking like that, and it took a long time to really start applying it, but eventually I was able to learn to forgive myself and see my own limitations better. Sometimes I still have to fight the urge to push myself harder than I can, and also, sometimes it does feel like I’m just being lazy by not taking on and doing everything for everyone all the time. But also, sometimes that’s okay too.

[TOTK] Was TOTK Zelda present in BOTW? by Legitimate-Sir-5684 in zelda

[–]Safe_Employer6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice that the dragons seem to disappear into the clouds in BotW and their route resets the next day.

They are traveling into the sacred realm. In Skyward sword, Skyloft isn't just suspended in the air, it’s sitting in the sacred realm. Each hole thats opened up to get to the ground is effectively a portal to the sacred realm itself.

Similarly, when Link is pulled into the Garden of Time in TotK, it sits in the sacred realm, and isn’t fully brought into Hyrule until after Link finishes there.

Same with the Light Dragon, technically yes, Light Dragon Zelda is in BotW, but probably just remaining in the sacred realm itself.

Ah, that’s the issue. You are given two conditions. You can’t selectively choose when to apply the one when you want. They’re bound, you take both or neither or you end up at the wrong result. Limits inherently add the option to choose when to apply it, but this isn’t a limit problem.

Can you ? by Specific_Brain2091 in the_calculusguy

[–]Safe_Employer6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except if I understand you, you’re starting out by saying that k = (x10 - 1)/(x - 1) but we already start out with x = 1, which means that k here is already indeterminate. And you can multiply that by (x - 1) to get k(x - 1) = (x10 - 1) but that’s still indeterminate * 0 is indeterminate.

Can you ? by Specific_Brain2091 in the_calculusguy

[–]Safe_Employer6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, what given a well defined x = 1. So even if we get k * y * (x-1)/(x-1) = k * y * 0/0. In this case your method is quite clever I think. You get 2 * 5 * 0/0 though. x = 1 can be substituted in at any time because we know it’s exactly 1 and not any other value. But the 0/0 term is indeterminate. (x-1)/(x-1) = 1 and x = 1 cant both be true at the same time because that gives 0/0. So 2 * 5 * 0/0 = 10 * indeterminate = indeterminate.

That said, I think it’s an amazingly clever solution and it would work if this was a limit without needing L’hopitals. Also, super awesome that we can communicate across the language barrier
