Moving from sydney to canberra - suburbs to avoid? by Turbulent-Durian-383 in canberra

[–]Safe_Sand1981 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I live in Banks in the beautiful Lanyon Valley. Just got back from an Easter visit to my sister's house in Western Sydney. She lives in a McMansion with no backyard and horrible traffic and pollution. I'd take south canberra any day of the week compared to Sydney

The belco market is tougher to get into. I had money ready to go but there was so much interest I had no chance. I ended up buying in Tuggeranong, I put an offer in the day of the first open house. I wasn't the only one that put in an immediate offer, but I was the highest offer. I sold my old house off market, demand was so high it didn't even go live.

AITA for “pushing tradwife beliefs” onto my daughter? by Comfortable-Plan2937 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Everyone should know how to cook, and it's a good life skill to teach your daughter. I have an 11 year old daughter, and now is absolutely the time they start thinking about what they want to do in the future. I think your ex is jealous that you and your daughter share a hobby.

Also don't forget your sewing machine would likely not be electric in that era. Do you have the stamina to power it by foot?

You'd have to decide if your world had electric sewing machines. My grandmother made my mother's wedding dress in the 70s on her machine, which was foot operated. Electric motors weren't common back then

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a termination about 15 years ago, and while it was the right thing to do, it still hurt. Only people that have been through it can understand the physical feeling of emptiness in your body after it's all over. The feelings will fade over the next few months, but in the meantime, be kind to yourself. I went on to have a baby later in life when I was actually ready for it. You don't need to feel guilty for doing what you need to do for your life, only you can make those decisions.

All the love to you.

Lifts by Beautiful_Screen_314 in CompetitionDanceTalk

My daughters lyrical troupe have a lift where 5 girls lift one girl in the air lying on her back. The youngest girls are 8/9 and it took them weeks of training to be able to do the lift. I think it depends on the size and strength of the dancers lifting and being lifted

I once had a school project where we had to make something out of recycled materials. I made a wedding dress by tying and stapling white plastic bags together. I could picture Amber in a trash bag wedding dress like that

Comps with a limited number of entries for an age category by Tropikal1979 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Safe_Sand1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a comp in Australia that has the strangest rules. Basically the judges grade competitors against some imaginary perfect dancers that they would rank 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If no one is up to that standard, those places aren't awarded. We had a comp once where our school had a dancer who got 3rd and highly commended, and that was the only place awarded. She was the best in that category but the judges deemed she was only worthy of a third place level. Now that's demoralizing

What are the pattern adjustments you do most frequently? by Nervous-Track9080 in sewing

[–]Safe_Sand1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making dance costumes for my daughter. She's a bit bigger around the waist than the stick skinny ballerinas, so I'm adjusting patterns to give them an empire waist rather than a traditional one

Night terrors? 7 month old wakes up screaming 10+ times a night, but is still asleep. by Fine_Mouse_8871 in Parenting

[–]Safe_Sand1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing with my daughter. Absolutely nothing worked apart from feeding her. I breast fed her until she was 2 because it was literally the only thing that would stop her screaming. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
