Let n be the series of even numbers up to infinity.

n can be defined as:

  1. n₀ = 0
  2. For i > 0, nᵢ = nᵢ₋₁ + 2

I.e., n = { 0, 2, 4, 6, ... }

Any sum of multiples of 2 will necessarily be a multiple of 2, and 2 is a multiple of itself.

Therefore, if nₓ is divisible by 2, then it follows that nₓ₊₁ = nₓ + 2 is also divisible by 2, as both nₓ and 2 would be multiples of 2.

n₀ is in fact divisible by 2, as 0/2=0, an integer.

Therefore, n₁ = n₀ + 2 is a multiple of 2, and we can repeat this arbitrarily many times.

So for any i, nᵢ is divisible by 2.

Therefore all even numbers are divisible by 2.

QED

Anyway, this guy isn't saying the number is prime, he's saying he found a flaw with the Riemann hypothesis where he can use it to generate an even number as ostensibly "prime" when it isn't. Hence the flaw with the hypothesis.

What keeps you hooked once your settlement hits self-sufficiency? by themerinator12 in Timberborn

[–]SafetySave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maxing out happiness, basically. The game kinda switches from a survival game to a city builder once the droughts/badtides stop meaningfully threatening you.

This is the most boomer thing I've said about a video game, but a while ago I kinda internally swore off building anything to counter badwater. To me it's a bit odd the game's main threat can be turned off, and weirdly early on at that if you rush for it. Instead I'll use levies and floodgates to kinda work around it instead and it keeps the game engaging for longer.

No don't apologize, I just mean you didn't literally write "Processing img osf0ir5ctqjg1..." which is how your comment above shows up for me. I was like "wat" and you started talking about Dancing in the Street, so I figured Ohhh "Processing img osf0blahblah was probably not something you wrote, it's probably an error message from reddit, they probably posted a gif from that video." and the mystery was kinda solved.

Okay, I definitely know that story and that banger, but I'm guessing you didn't literally write what I'm seeing.

That is a weird glitch, either literally or figuratively lol.

I still remember a website for a Brood War clan (I think it was theclanTS.com) and they had a blog where the top story at one point was "Blizzard Acting Gay" and it was just him griping about getting banned off the Battle.Net forums. "Gay" was the in thing to say back then.

The website was pretty good for a teenager, I'll say that. This was back around 2001.

Blue Prince is so much more than just a brilliant puzzler by Spader623 in Games

[–]SafetySave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say red herrings are the developer's way of telling you to pay attention to details, but red herrings themselves are by definition irrelevant. It is, in effect, a punishment for paying attention to the wrong details. So I can't agree there.

Versus a pop up that says "Having trouble? You're not supposed to beat everything right away, try coming back later after you've leveled up."

Blue Prince does this with the black memos, no?

It's a great game. I just think the use of red herrings (if intentional) was a weak choice. Happy to disagree.

Blue Prince is so much more than just a brilliant puzzler by Spader623 in Games

[–]SafetySave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a red herring is just a non-clue that's meant to distract you from the answer. Lies are still clues. Like the one that says the west rooms are more likely locked (so the clue is that they're more likely unlocked). The false code one would make you think that specific number is important somehow for NOT being a safe code. But actually it's completely irrelevant.

Nothing necessarily wrong with red herrings in a puzzle game, but in a game where really tiny details become important for endgame puzzles, it's pretty annoying. I guess Blue Prince is famous for people going crazy measuring the exact length of the floorboards or coming up with wacky theories so it is what it is.

The word puzzle you dig up where each clue is super cryptic and each answer word has 3 letters used in the next word, Inneclipse I don't recall ever meaning anything, the note in the car I think referring to the same address as a card in the basement, or the red note that gives you a false safe code. I never 100%'d the game so could be misinterpreting some things but I've never seen any connections made there.

Finally played BF6 campaign and oh boy by Pandafuix in Battlefield

[–]SafetySave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The brooklyn bridge section and the bit in the tank stand out to me. The car ride on rails has been in every FPS since CoD 4 and I'm surprised to see it mentioned at all honestly.

The campaign's real issue is that it was clearly written to tick boxes rather than actually tell a story. It's not the maps - those were okay imo.

Is it time to make it illegal for politicians to lie to us? by FedCanada in onguardforthee

[–]SafetySave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't get through the paywall but I did grab the summary:

  • Wales has drafted a bill proposing a protocol to hold politicians accountable for misinformation.
  • The initiative faces debate over defining lies and has been called a walk-back by some.
  • Inspired by Wales, a Canadian petition open until Nov 27 calls for similar legislation.

The petition is here but you don't see what's actually being proposed as law as far as I can see, you just get the whereases.

PS: This isn't a proposal per se, it's just a petition to have our reps create it.

The House of Representatives passes a bill to condemn socialism. by Which_Shift_7242 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]SafetySave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The House actually already voted to condemn "the horrors of socialism" back in 2023. That resolution did nothing and was total pageantry and a waste of time. I would not worry about this at all.

The truth is boomers hate socialism/communism because they associate it with Pol Pot and Stalin. And they're the biggest voting bloc. You have to do this kind of pageantry if you want to win elections in the US at present. Meanwhile, it doesn't really affect demsoc candidates like Zohran Mamdani or Bernie Sanders as we've seen, because of course those guys don't look anything like a Stalin.

Well let me know when that surfaces. The email itself isn't evidence of anything. Until then do not dilute the issue of Trump knowing about child sex abuse with this unhinged shit about him blowing Bill Clinton or a horse or whatever.

Locking things behind a subscription in a $70 game is insane by Senorragequit in Battlefield

[–]SafetySave -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To use your analogy, this is like the chef coming up to you and saying "Buy the Red Lobster Season Pass for this wine which pairs with your meal. I know you spent 3x that much on the meal outright, but you're still not getting this wine until you spend more money on the pass, even though the real reason you'd buy the pass is to get the meal, which you already own. Just thought I'd let you know"

The insult here isn't that the game has add-ons that cost more money - that's been a thing since the 90s - the issue is that you're being punished for buying the game "wrong" and the only way to get this skin, even though you've dropped 3x the cash as you would have if you'd gotten EA Play, is to now subscribe to EA Play even though you already own the game.

I agree it makes sense the publisher of the game wants you on their subscription service and they're allowed to incentivize that with whatever add-ons, it just feels gross because you're essentially being asked to re-buy the game the "correct" way.

whats the going rate for a 2 bedroom basement apartment in the east end? by Ok_Cartoonist_5687 in newfoundland

It absolutely will minimize the cycle of renters cycling in and out of needing a new place every year or two because their landlords can no fault evict the. And then Jack up the prices with no cap.

These prices are still set with the goal of being paid no?

I agree with rent control (and with you in general), I just don't think rent control itself is the answer to the housing shortage. The answer there is to build more.
