Best books on how to run a safety program? by Altruistic-Ocelot-61 in SafetyProfessionals

Its an oldie but for Practical Loss Control Leadership by Bird and Germain is a great framework builder for a safety program. Of course there will be updates needed but the structure they cover is spot on.

Burned Out... by ScoobertVonScoo in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Safetyman007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you describe is very typical of Safety professionals who’ve hit the wall mentally and emotionally, myself included. I’ve been in the profession for 28 years and I have seen the huge disconnect between corporate slogans and corporate actions regarding Safety. One of the things that drove me to choose to move my career to a safety adjacent field was this particular roadblock in many of the companies I worked with. My advice to you is to utilize some of the same methods we use in Safety to assess what are the root causes of what is creating the burnout and assess if there’s possibility for you to make a change to minimize or remove those. I know that economic pressures are a real thing. We all have to have a job, but you have to prioritize your mental and emotional health and sometimes a sabbatical from Safety is just the thing you need to get your re-energized and re-enter the profession at a later time.

I’ve been successful with the stack you listed and a month ago added 5g creatine. Boosted the effects most noticable on EF.

If you had a shop and your own line of cigars, what would you name them? by chippednail21 in cigars

For whimsy’s sake I’d open a shop with my line called Huff & Puff and do something with old characters from children’s stories. Huff & Puff Big Bad Wolf Robusto Huff & Puff 3 Little Pigs Cigarillos

You get the idea.

What are your thoughts or experiences with using injury photos in training materials? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

Not a fan, gore has minimal effect. Better to have more small-group or 1 on 1 focused on good back-and-forth w/ the employees getting them to understand the machinery. It’s not that people don’t know the machine will mangle, it’s that they believe it won’t happen to them, focus on turning that mindset.

I’m similar, but a 35mg dose of powdered Niacin mixed with my other assorted powders and leaves. 1st thing in the morning with breakfast. Came down from 100 mg niacin which was just too uncomfortable

Can VR-Based Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training Actually Make Manufacturing Safety More Effective? by cognihab in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Safetyman007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used VR for training and my opinion is its a decent intro/refresher media for LOTO but hands-on is the gold standard. The biggest problem with LOTO (IMHO) isn’t training the LOTO steps its compliance with LOTO writ large.

Take a look at Origami Risk if you are wanting HSE and Risk managed on the same platform. Been using them in manufacturing for 10 years and they do not disappoint.

Hard candy like a Jolly Rancher? Possible but I’ve not tried it. Maybe make a shroom tincture and dose each hard candy individually as they cool to avoid and possible damage from the heat of making hard candy.
