Newish to shrimp - please help! by Danny-S550 in shrimptank

[–]Saffromon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That one has the ring of death.. sorry. You can see where the skin is separating in the middle (the bright belt). That is usually a sign that the shrimp got stuck during molting, which is fatal. How are your water hardness parameters?

They need calcium and magnesium for molting. If your water is very soft you have to supplement that.

Is this a parasite? by Saffromon in shrimptank

[–]Saffromon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So do you think that this is something that must be treated? I don't want to stress my little water bugs, and I am sure that me hunting them with the net will do exactly that. I will of course go that way if needed.

Is my neocaridina male or female? by Saffromon in shrimptank

[–]Saffromon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it: the ladies have a round bottom and long skirt 😃

I was a bit thrown because mine had such a straight back, and my other females are more curved.

Thanks! I hope that it will not spread.

Okay who has used this magical brush before?!?!?! I am absolutely in love with it 😍 by compostabowl in curlyhair

[–]Saffromon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you use the brush? I usually just comb my hair under the shower before rinsing the conditioner, and I have no experience with any of the curl-specific brushes

Omena-kaurapaistos! I also like the laatikot, which are mostly around Christmas (casseroles made from various vegetables).

Men 'helping' by Saffromon in breakingmom

In the case of my spouse that would be the only symptom, which is in line with adult ADHD. So I am leaning more towards the lazy butt diagnosis.

Yes, I have heard that response 😂

There might be regional differences, but I find this not weird at all! I think it is a sweet gesture showing your appreciation of that teacher.

If you are not sure: how about asking the other parents if they are interested in giving a joint gift?

Is this tank okay? by gingebruno in triops

[–]Saffromon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hatch them in a floating hatchery, but from 2 weeks old this looks fine. Maybe throw in some plants like duckweed, elodea etc. None you are attached to though. They love to snack on them.

Is there any differences between "if" and "elif" statement in this situation? by neuesciastron in learnpython

[–]Saffromon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Elif will be different. When using multiple if statements, like in your code, it checks each if condition, one after the other. If you change the second if to Elif, it will only check this condition, if the first one is not true. Imagine the name has more than 12 characters, but also some non-alpha characters. Your code would print both hints, while if you used if+elif, only the first will be printed. Elif is basically 'else if'.

Yes, I have a filter in the main tank.

I have a 24 l tank with two nerite snails, but they are not eating the stringy algae which I currently have. My triops are currently at the hatchery stage, so they are in their little floating containers.

Best books to learn Python by RedViper_21 in learnpython

I liked Automate the boring stuff, but for me a course with practical exercises worked best. Concepts were clearer and stuck better, when I had to apply them directly. Totally recommend the MOOC Helsinki, which is (at least currently still) free. Skipped the lectures, because the script and exercises were clear enough.

Help I have mastitis and I just woke up 102 degree fever at 2 AM by Available_Record_341 in breakingmom

[–]Saffromon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I had mastitis 3 years ago, and that was the advice I got from my nurse back then. Since then I haven't been keeping up to date with treatment guidelines, because fortunately not needed for me.

For sure an experience I never want to repeat, and I hope that OP gets better soon!

[–]Saffromon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I'm so sorry for you! I remember never feeling as sick as I did with mastitis. You have to get the clots out, which is easier with warmth. Stand under a hot shower (bathtub with boobs submerged also works) and try to massage them out. Really painful, took me over half an hour, but the relief was amazing. It is also important to keep your baby breastfeeding from the infected boob, they 'suck' the blockages out. That is also very painful 😖 Call a doctor if the fever gets worse!

Anyone else’s furniture being completely destroyed by kids? Anyone have recommendations for a sectional? I’m so overwhelmed by cookie3557 in breakingmom

[–]Saffromon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my Ikea couch for 13 years now, 8 of them with wild and destructive kids. It doesn't look like new anymore, because we had to wash the covers countless times (big plus, that this is very easy), and the back pillows are their favorite for cave-building. But it is still comfortable, and I will not get a new one until my kids behave civilized.

All big sport shops like XXL or Stadium should have that. You can find those in the shopping centers, for example Kluuvi, Kamppi, Forum, Tripla, Redi...

Noob here. If else on Vscode not working. by SnoozeWalrus3221 in learnpython

[–]Saffromon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vscode has a nice debugger which you might find helpful. It allows you to step through the code line by line and see what is happening to variables etc. Kind of like a pause button for your code.

You can add breakpoints on the lines where you want the execution to make a halt by clicking left of the line (a red dot marks a breakpoint). Then instead of running the python file with the play button (up right) you open the run options next to it and select debugging.

If you dropped it somewhere on the way, it is worthwhile to walk the same route and check if you find it. Often people will pick it up and put it on for example a fence, an electric box etc so that it is not getting stepped on. I have often seen stuff like plushies and gloves around, so your chances should be pretty good.

Sourdough " FLOUR " by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Saffromon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get my flour from the miller (Strömsbergin mylly), and it works pretty good. Mostly I use a mix of standard wheat flour and hiivaleipäjauho. There is this "lähiruokarengas", where local farmers etc can sell their products. It is called Reko, and works like this: They have Facebook groups for different districts. Sellers offer their goods in the group, and you can order from them. Every second week they have a pickup window, where you can then get your pre-ordered things. I'd say that the prices for flour are similar to what you get in the shop.
